Eric!!!! pack that bowl full, set down, relax and start typeing.Makeing your own archery tackle is a story in itself. Not many of us can do what you did. Then arrowing a fine critter with it! Not to mention a critter that can also harvest you in a split second should things go arey.Thats pretty cool.Archer Bowman once said about being on bear hunts with self bows and wood arrows,NOW THATS A HUNT.I only got 16 days left until hunting season opens here.I will not return home until sept 30th.That will be like a whole month with no Quebec bear stories.Come on man I can't take this.I will be keeping notes of the up comeing hunt, but it won't be like hang'en wit you my brother.....Pack'er up!!!!!!!!!!!!.bd

Gee, Bowdoc, I'm starting to wheep up reading of your upcoming hardship... if you want, maybe I could fill in for you on your month long sojourn so's you could come home and keep up on the thread?

We've not met, but I can tell you're a straight up guy, so on JC's say so, I'd do that for ya...honest!   :readit:        :saywhat:

OK...time to go on...
I didn't sleep well that night, wondering about the shot. Finally Tom says lets go track your bear.  First we have to go pick up Steve's bear.  Steve's bear was very nice.  Tom, Lloyd, Bowdoc, Steve and I finally get to my stand.  I tell them exactly what happened, we pick up the blood trail and follow to where I stopped.  From there, the blood trail was easy, 20 yards from where I stopped lay my bear. The range of emotions is incredible.  I had my first bear ever.  I took it with equipment I made.  The only think on my equipment I didn't make was the 145 gr eclipse broadhead.
After much hand shaking, back slapping and picture taking the real work begins.

My bear weighed 197 pounds, was one of the three taken on this trip with selfbows.  Next year I plan on having a stone point on my arrows.
This trip was amazing for me.  I haven't hunted with this many wonderful people ever!  Thank you all very much for giving me memories I'll never forget.

That by far is the best hunting trip I have ever been on.I am really looking foward to next spring.I will get plenty of time in with the yew wood long bow between now and then.Doc Nock thank you,I would love to take you up on your offer to replace me in the Cascade Mountians for a month. But I would just not feel right about asking someone to do a dirty job like that............ But again thank you for the offer!!!!!!!!! bd
