I know.  What is a bowyer doing hunting with a bow that someone else made.  Answer-  appreciating a true work of art.

The Story started about 6 months ago when I met a new friend through trad gang and ended up selling him a Mojostik.  We talked back and forth quite a bit during the build process of his bow, and it was revealed the he too was a bowyer.  An unfortunare shoulder injury ended his selfbow building for good.  It also forced him to shoot a bow much lighter in weight and higher in performance than a selfbow.  We Exchanged pictures of our work, and I really admired a bow that he had built for a friend of his that had died before getting the bow.  In coinsidense he named the bow "Mojo".  After speaking of my admiration I recieved the bow as a gift a couple of weeks later.  In order to honor Jasons true tallent, and Dennis who never got to see his beautiful bow, I had a mission.

That brings me to todays story and pictures....Until this point of the season I am without venison.  I begged my wife to let me hunt Christmas eve in the 18 inches of snow that we have gotten in the last 2 weeks.  Fifteen minutes before dark there were more than 10 deer withing eyesight. It took the doe pictured below 12 of the 15 minutes left to give me a shot.  A cedar shaft, 160 grain grizzly(razor sharp), and a 60# self bow with canebreak skin backing, filled my freezer.  A 70 yard tracking job that a blind mad could follow revealed a double lung hit.  Blood on snow sure looks cool.  God bless you for the great gift Jason.  I'm sure Dennis was guiding my arrow.

The old order is passing. Swiftly receding into memory are the days of strong, earnest men who followed an atavistic yearning to pit their skills against wild animals.
