I've got a howler....do you use a howler alone or in conjunction with distress call.

I can get them to respond with howlers but never commit to it and come in ( I'm probably doing something wrong)   The only call I know is kinda like a yip.yip.yip HOOOOWL....

I'm all open to suggestions.  The nest one I get with the recurve is for my camp...hopefully this winter

A good place to hear call sounds is Varmint Al's web page. He has a list of coyote howls and injured animal sounds you can download. I burned a CD of sounds so I have the option of using a walkman with speakers(keeps the attention off me). It is more rewarding and fun with a hand call in my opinion.
Larger than life and twice as ugly

thanks...I'll try and find it Varmint Al's webpage...and I agree hand call are more fun.

Congratulations!   ..that's a nice big dog.

I shot one with my longbow some years back and it was the toughest critter to give up the ghost I've ever seen.   "[dead]"  I saw him hunting mice in a meadow and called him in by sucking on the back of my hand making a squeaking sound.

I hope you don't regret giving away the hide, a yote with a bow is a special trophy...especially the first one. I had mine done in a full mount standing on a base, he looks like he's still alive.

bea, how much did it weight? thats a huge one. I took a female a couple years ago with my selfbow that weighed 55# and I thought that was big!

As wary as those critters are, it's a wonder that anyone can kill one with a bow. Also, it seems that they never stand still for more than a few seconds then they are off again. I also killed one a number of years ago from a tree at three yards. The shot was as perfect as it could have been and the coyote died 6 yards on the other side of the tree that I was in after making several 360's after the shot. I did get pictures but regretably did nothing else with animal. Great Trophy BEA!

Micky...I've already got a coyote hat...and a beaver hat. two muskrat hats and an otter hat.

I like fur hats.   :bigsmyl:

I never weighed him...but I expect it was in or around 50 lbs.  It was a big critter ....I'm a shade over 6 foot..so it was pretty long.

Oh, and Ron,  you may be correct.....I sorta regret giving it a way already lol !
