I am using a cannon EOS rebel, 35 mm.     How do I get rid of the shadow that covers the face when the person is wearing a hat.    The problem aroused when I was taking a picture of my son and it was high noon and very sunny.

I am not familiar with that model. Does it have a biult in "popup" flash?

Either way, the way to rid yourself of those shadows is to use a flash set to a "fill in" setting.

If it has a pop-up flash, just activating it will set it to fill in most times.

If you can move your subject into a shaded area, that would eliminate the darkened eye sockets. Use fill flash as mentioned above or you will need to reflect some light back into the face (easy) or diffuse the sunlight (not as easy). High noon in direct sun is a tough situation, you will also have distinct shadows under the nose and under the chin.

Use a flash unit that is powerful enough. If your flash is not very strong you should move closer to the subject. Good Luck,  Doc
