Kenny that is just not right! You need some his and hers cameras   :biglaugh:

OK ,got the camera back! Only a little done tonite, looks like everything stayed where we wanted it this time! Heres a pic of how I hold the belly lams to keep em from slidin up the riser, specially if the tapers are on the belly! Cut a pc. about the thickness of the glass and lams there and bevel the ends a bit,hot glue it on the riser with a couple dabs  so the lams and glass push right up against it,pop it off when cured.

Heres what happens if the neighbor stops by in the middle of glueup!! I forgot to squeegee the glue down off the edges of the limbs  after applying the air to er!! I usually use one of them pink soft little squeegee things by the Bondo in wally world to push the glue off the edge of the limb, then just snap it off ofter you take the bow outta the form......

Thats all for tonite,Mr. Dave Beeler called needin some bow parts,so I got those done!

OK ,that last pic is where I started tonite, ground off all excess glue, ugh, easier to push it down on the plastic wrap when ya put the air to er!!

Put the centerline back on..

Lay out the limb length from center,32" each way here...

First mark is string groove 2nd is cutoff

Hacksaw the end off...

You can peel tape off cutoff just to see how its gonna look...

Lay out the limbs,I use a string with 2 heavy washers, mark center on both ends and center of bow, hang the string on the limbs and if needed adjust to where ya have it centered over middle mark, usually not necessary. Sorry,no pic there.Heres the limb marked out...

Filed the grooves and strung her up...

Sanded the corners a bit and here she is at full draw, already plannin where to tweak the next
one!!

More another day!!
Stay sharp, Kenny.

What kind of lam thickness and tapers did you use? Looking really good.

Chris Surtees

Kenny,

That is just awesome. Your son is going to be very pleased with his bow.

Blaine, I used .340 butt stack thickness with an experimental taper starting at .005" per inch at the butt and changing to .002" per inch at the tip.
Got some more pix but photobucket isn't cooperating with  me at the moment!

Great looking bow Kenny, your a real craftsman.

kennym

Thanks guys, I'll try to finish this one up soon!

Here I've cut the site window, worked the grip and added the riser and tip overlays, tomorrow I'll smooth everything up a bit and we shoot it!!

Looks like my tip overlay cracked a bit, might have to take it off and redo. I may take a bit off above the grip,ya think it looks fat?   :p

Kenny, I've never made a glass backed bow before but this is giving me the itch to try it. That is one gorgeous wood combintation! I've not seen too much Ipe before but I like it! And you say it was designed by your son? Man, that's neat.

Bona, I already had the form designed and made,my youngest and I hashed out the wood combos and riser flair. He looked thru the woodpile in my shop and came up with his picks,I added the padauk strip on a whim,I think it sets it off!The Ipe is some hard stuff BTW!!
