Got pics of the other side now. Still got some reduction in width that will most likely ( I hope) eliminate the knot. Man..I saw that knot and I flipped out. I guess we will see...thanks to all my friends...

Is the knot solid?  I'd be worried about leaving it in.  I'd likely excise it and fill with sawdust and epoxy.

I think you ought to do a build along on one of the Texas porkers. You could call it "From Stick to Spit".

Looking forward to more of this one. The ELB is my first love of primative bows and I have made one or two but I have never gotten brave enough to buy some good English Yew to try it on.

 John, I'm hoping the knot will go away after further width reduction. I still have about 1/8" to give total in that area. Depending on the actual density of the wood...I may even have a bit more. The knot appears to ba a limb that was buried with additional growth. Other than that the wood wants to be a bow.
 Did some resping tonite...she's comming around.

Well...I got a little bit of work done today. I still have some issues with knots, but think it will make a decent bow if it survives tiller. It is bending some at floor tiller, but all work has been with rasp's & scrapers cause of the knots...slow going.
  Center is 1" away from true center making the upper limb "actually" 1" longer to offset the arrah pass according to legacy information. We have 1 1/8" at the arrah pass for 6" each side from tru center...tapering gradually to 1/2" wide at the tips. It is 73" long right now but will prolly end up at 72" if I need to "pike" it.

Thanks Dano...the back has some pins that are questionable next to the edge, but I think I'll be Ok. This is  much denser wood than I had imagined it is fun to work.

sparky, I have a hickory backed oak bloodwood handled ELB glued up and qued. I am gonna watch how you put your horn tips on, and see how it's done! I have some PBR rodeo stock horn tips that are jes jonesin ta live as my nocks. I got them from a famous rodeo star's brother.    He is a dawg, but friendly. I am watchin brother, I am watchin!!!

Looking good. I agree with Dano, knot should be fine.  I'd remove that one on the side completely though.  Are you putting rawhide on the back of this?  I love working yew.  I have one I'm hopefully going to start on soon.

If you can't get rid of that big knot on the side no sweat, that bow I had at Mojam had two on the sides and never a lick of trouble with em.

Sparky I'm here with you in spirit bro but I just can't tell nothin' by those pictures.  The numbers you wrote off sounded good.  It may be a smidge proud in the handle by the time your are through.  I like the building and then piking idea.  Effective, and traditional.
