Sparky, the profile looks good so far.I see the spot,not sure how bad it is? I've never messed much with this wood,but David has,I'm sure he's watching,and can give some advice.

Excellent posting, Sparky. I admired Hooligan's Homgaard as well. I think the elm is waaay more authentic.

IRRC the original is in Denmark. Eric Callahan of flintknapping fame and the Bulletin of Primitive Technology actually handled the original and made measurements and has a replica cast of it as well.

Hey Dan!...good to here from you..hope all is well. This is a dream of mine I have had for some time. I have researched as well as I could on the accurate dimensions for this bow. If it is worthy it will become the problem child of Mr. Mimms.
 David has helped me so much in my endeavors I feel it only fitting it goes back to him...Shhhh don't tell him tho.

Thanks Rusty...that's good need ta know stuff for sure. I'm gonna take it slow with this one. Too nice a piece of wood to do it a injustice. Aside from the wind check it is perfectly clean (cept the white house paint   :eek: ). I know he has a 29" draw as I do so we'll see?

Dang Sparky.  Thanks bud.  I don't remember doing anything particularly nice.  I do love swappin' out stuff and you and yer dad are real fine folks I'm pleased to have as friends.

On the bow, I'd warm the wind check, super glue it with some of the better quality thin glue and clamp it.  Chances are you'll be fine but I really couldn't see anything in the pic.  

On the tiller, Holms are tricky.  I think you want the wide wood to work.  That will make your tiller more stiff ended.  I haven't tried that particular width profile but I have read it's a beach to get the width taper to work because of the pronounced transition from strenght in width to strenght in thickness.  

By my reckoning you are a little scarce on wood for much bow at 29".  This is probably fortunate because 50# @ 29" is all I care to shoot.  If you keep it dry I expect you can make that without too much follow.  Try to steal as much work out of the handle section as you can.

I know ya'll have all seen this pic a thousand times but for comparision, it's 65" NTN and 2" wide nearly full lenght.  As you can see, you have to really work a 65" stiff handled bow to get 29".

Maybe that is my problem.  I've only got hand tools.  Takes forever to take one down to that shape.  Now I see my problem.

Sparky,I didn't know you was a party animal  :D  DCM's elm makes really fast bows    and is a joy to work.  Glad to see yer show here!

Ok Sparkster..here are pictures of Holm Boy made by Tim Hamblin in 2002. Hickory 49#@26" 65" tip to tip with pin nocks..4" x 1 1/4 x 1 1/4" handle (measured over the handle wrap) 1 1/2" fades. Measures 1 3/4" at the fade tapers to 1 1/2" over the next 12" (gold band) where it necks down over the next 2" to 7/8" further tapering over the next 13" to just over 1/2" wide at the tips

It measures .470 thick at the end of the fades and more or less carries that the length of the limb until you get close to the tip where it measures 1/2" thick.
