OK.... I have been PMed by several guys about my hunt and costs so here goes....

For those interested here are the final costs for my South African adventure.... There are always variations in costs but these are mine and some of them were unknown to me prior to my hunt... Before I went I was hard for me to find this information. That's why I'm posting it here.

My fully outfitted hunt with these game speices.

Nyala, Blesbuck, Red Duiker, Impala
$5050.00 (plus tip??? Your discretion)

------------------------------------

My airfare from Los Angeles International to Tembo RSA

$1358 if I remember and $340 from Tembo to Richards Bay with and overnight stay in a lodge.

------------------------------------

Taxidermy for shoulder mounted Impala, Nayala, full body Duiker, skull and shield for the Blesbuck and all back and full capes tanned

$1720.00

----------------------------------

Freight from South Africa to San Francisco International airport.

$1556.20

----------------------------------

Brokerage fee and misc

$495.00

----------------------------------

Freight inside the US will vary but in my case it will run between... (about 125 pound crate and about 4'x4'x3' tall)

$450/$500   .......CHANGE OF PLAN... I am driving to San Francisco airport and picking up my crate there...  so maybe $100 fuel cost???

-----------------------------------

So when all is said and done the trip will have cost a around $11,000 plus the tip

Hope this information is of some value ...

Did your outfitter include the transfer from the airport in the cost of the trip or was that separate.

ArrowCrester

Dear skilonbw,

The Outfitter includes transfer to and from airport and all transfer and prep of trophies to local taxidermist in the daily cost per hunter. No extra charge for these services.

If you would like to discuss more details feel free to contact me at archerman@mail.com or call me on 916-835-3659.

Thanks i was curious since I just came back from a photo safari where I was charged for about everything so the wife and I being frugal as we are saw that it was cheaper to rent a car and drive to the lodge from the airport so we went that route. Allowed us to get out and explore more of the area without using our lodge for sidetrips.

Jean-Paul I weighed the options and looked at my PH's Taxidermists work and decided to have it done in Africa and shipped finished with the capes and back capes done.

if i was having a mulie mounted- i would only consider it in N. America. and likewise a kudu- only in africa.
for a coupla reasons
1. helps keep the money where it is needed, and where it should be spent- i feel.
2. the taxidermists in their own areas- know their own animals- they do lots of them- they know the subtelties of the poses, expressions, muscle definitions, behaviour etc of their resident game.
not saying there arent good taxidermists out there who couldnt do the other animals.
just my opinion.

beautiful animals Kip.
well done!!

i simply love all the Duiker family- and great table fare to boot!.
Grey Duiker and impala used to form our staple venison diet.
you gotta get down to the coast next time- and get an oribi a Blue Duiker, and maybe a nice Bushbuck.

coaster500

Thanks Wayne I am very excited to see the full body mount with the Red Duiker. I was hoping to see one on this trip but to have one come into bow range and wait him out long enough to make the shot count...  well that was pretty cool for me.

These small Antelope have really gotten my attention and after witnessing there speed and supernatural reflexes I'd put them at the top of my list of African or for that matter game animals period!!!

This is a full body mount of another animal (Bongo)that this Taxidermist has done...  I post it for an example....  so I guess you can see how excited I am to see the Duiker!!!

Looking forward to seeing the finished pics of your mounts....looks like you found one of the few good SA Taxidermists.

Red Duiker is gonna be great so glad you went with a full mount! Send me some pics please when you get them.
There is more to the Hunt.. then the Horns

Coaster500,

I saw your price list... who many days did you hunt ???

From reading your story it seemed like 4 or 5 ???

Thanks,

bob

Will do Andy...  Can't wait to see them myself!!

Bob, I could only take 5 days to hunt but wish I could have stayed longer. There will be a minimum of ten days on the menu next time... I was in SA a total of eight days, not long enough but even so I'd do it again in a heartbeat!!!
