Can someone tell me which this is? Zebrawood or Tigerwood. The bow is a Bear Bearcat. Not a stress crack or ding on it.

Thanks,
Ray

They can be a little difficult to distinguish. That riser is Tiger wood; Zebra is more striking from light to dark and brighter. The 1964 Grizzly is Zebra wood.

I have some zebrawood bows like that which are tighter grained than most.

It's really a no brainer. Just take a look at "68 Grizzlys '69 Grizzlys, most Herters bows. It's dark like Rosewood with various stripe patterns nothing at all like Zebrawood

Correction on the 69s I meant to say K Mag and Hunter models usually the black tippers.

Hopewell Tom,

I found this while this old guy was looking for a lighter pound bow to work on my form. Left hand made this a challenge. It is a 27# that appears to have been shot very little.  It was scary, because the seller had no rating on Evilbay. But it turned out just fine.

It seems that the most votes go to Tigerwood. Based on the images of wood samples that I found online, I lean toward Tigerwood also.

Jack Shanks

You have 4 votes for Zebrawood and 1 for Tigerwood. Tigerwood wins out. Hmmm........... I guess I need to go re-figure.

New math they're teaching these days.

The 1964 catalog show that it would be African Zebra wood.

Looks like I was up way past my bedtime-not sure what I was thinking about. It must have been something other than what I was writing.

Thanks for the slap up side the head..... I needed that.

I often use the website hobbithouseinc.com...one thing you will notice on there is that trying to identify any wood based on a single sample is pretty risky...the truth is there are some great similarities between some pieces of zebrawood and some pieces of tigerwood...the big factor is Bear Archery used a lot of Zebrawood back then and very little or no Tigerwood (Goncalo Alves)...not long ago I had a chance to buy a 1961 Kodiak Special where the dark striping of the Zebrawood completely overpowered the golden part...I am still not sure what happened with that deal

I set out a while ago to reduce my herd of 40 bows...And I am finally down to 42
