Hope this works, new to me 59er, 60", 60#! Love it! And I'm HUNTING IT!!! Just curious of the sight window doesn't look like any wood that I know!

I am not a wood expert but it does look to be light colored wood with some stain on it.  I want to say maple but need to do a little research on a better device than this ipad.

They are sweet bows.  I bought a new '59 in 60# weight and have yet to string it.  I don't think my shoulder would like it; it starts complaining north of 50#.

After looking at some pictures of various woods, I have to go with Bubinga (African Rosewood)

Thanks I would be interested in that 60# er if you decide you want to ever let her go! That's the next one I'm saving for!

Now I'm back to not sure, I didn't think purpleheart could be that light.

Bjorn beat me. It is heavily aged purpleheart under very very yellow finish.

Ugh

Just realized I just sold that bow two weeks ago after I saw the 60" 60#!

WIND WALKER

Thanks for the info, LOVE THE BOW!  it's in good hands.

Bjorn and Bearbowman have it right!
I have the same sight window on my 59 and that's what it looked like until I refinished it. I was still a bit confused by the color but Wade Phillips pointed out the grain and bowman's statement regarding the aged very yellow finish clarifies the issue......

Here are before and after pictures of my '59 sight window. At times I swore that I was seeing a slight purple tint to the wood but I honestly do not know what wood it is.  I just wanted to get these pictures on the same page so we can compare the two bows.  What are your thoughts?

Can you post a picture of yours?  Let's have some fun here.

If I were more literate on computers, I would like to make a collage of the woods used in each years bows so that it would easy to compare grain, color, etc.

here is a shot of the old bow and the repro 59 that definitely has a purpleheart sight window

Ya I see what Ya mean I now believe that is definitely purpleheart those are a couple of beauties!  What is the cost of a good refinishing I don't know if I would do my 59 but I got a 56 that I'm considering. Thanks

I don't know what the going rate is for a restore.  I have always done my own work but have been thinking about doing some bows for others.  I suspect that it is more a labor of love than anything else as I can put a lot of hours into getting a bow right.  If you hear what the cost is, let me know.  Your 59 doesn't look too bad from what little I can see of it.  Mine was pretty ragged when I bought it.  The worse they look before makes them all the prettier after when the photos are compared.

I will do that Mr Lehmann, No the 59 isn't  very bad but I bet she sure would be pretty! But my 56 sure could use it. There's one spot on the 56 where the glass is real rough but I think it can be saved.

It is not just the cost of refinishing it is also the time. Turnaround for me has been as little as 6 months, and in one case it was 3 years. Costs have ranged from 100-300 dollars plus shipping.

Pics of mine are posted down below in the "Rarest Model" thread by Wade. I refinished it myself and it took better then a month to get it right. I guess you could say it was a labor of love..... but well worth the effort.
Brock
A lot of guy's out there doing nice work but as Bjorn points out time and money involved, that and the shipping risk which to me is a pain.......
