Need an aluminum or nickle silver Bear coin for a 1971 Kodiak Magnum that does not have the coin. I see 3 rivers sells a bear coin but it is gold in color and I would rather try to match the bow up with the right colored coin. Anybody know where these can be picked up?

Thanx.

I'am digging right now.But if I may,you sure that coin was not brass ? Bill...keep me posted bowdoc

Blackhawk

Yeah, I think you are correct bowdoc.  The '71 coin should be the flat brass version.

I went to the following website

http://www.neoreality.com/archery/goodole.htm

I saw that the coin was silver. Now, after reading your guys input, I see that there was a brass one as well.

d. ward

hummmmmm.I will keep looking..talk soon bowdoc

If you have a silver colored medallion, you can make it bronze by first painting it with clearcoat. Not sure it makes any difference what kind; Testors, Poly, Fullerplast, etc. Then go down to your local Trophy shop and have them dip it in the gold solutions that they use on trophies.

I know that works silver to bronze but I don't think they can make silver coin out of bronze. I believe that trophies come only in 2nd place Silver, and they make the 1st place Gold and the 3d place bronze by dipping the Silver trophy in right solution to turn the color.

I'm starting to think that brass is the right coin. I am still researching. No doubt that Bear used both silver and gold coins for 1970-1972. It looks like different coins were used on different models. I am leaning towards Kodiak Magnum got the brass one.

your getting warmer...I'am still looking,bowdoc

A friend has a '71 Kodiak Hunter, so I called him, and the coin is a flat "silver" colored one.

This can be...

I am going to give my two cents worth. I think the coin should be the brass colored one. I do have one by the way.

Horney Toad

My 1970 Kmag has a gold coin. In fact, I have about 10 Bear bows with gold coins. Actually, they are supposed to be brass coins. I'm seriously doubting if there is going to be much difference in the color between brass and gold. I'd buy the 3rivers coin and not think twice about it.

d. ward

I only been giving him a little at a time...now you guy's got him all amped up on sugar....Shep your right we lost another one......Wadde's right!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! bowdoc

bowdoc- I saw a picture of you last night. Are those leg holes that big in those shorts, or are your legs that skinny?

Thanx for the info guys. Brass it is.

D.Sheppard

I come here to learn but I'm learning a bit to much about you boys. T.M.I.!!

What is that little blue stripe in the glass above the standing bear logo?  I've got one of these too in a 50# and mine has the identical stripe.

the 60 inch 1955 Kodiak Special has always look suspiciously alot like a 60" 1957 Kodiak to me.... they both really spit out an arrow.

Nice bow here, love the dark site window....What kind of wood do you suppose that is?
I was born with nothing and I still have most of it left.

Migra Bill

Alaskabowhunter-
This is the bow that I asked for your input on. I am super glad you told me to go for it. I read somewhere that this is a maple bow with a rosewood site window.

d. ward

Diamondwood.....for 1955.If you look real close just above the grip you should see several laminations of wood, makeing up the ibean...great shooter....bowdoc
