Hello all, I've finally decided to take the trip into broadhead collecting so my eleven month old son will have this piece of history later on.  Do any of you gangers have a list of need to have broadheads for a collection, and does anybody have any extra heads they are willing to sell?  Thanks Tripper

Think about WHY YOU want to collect and what YOU want to collect - then do just that! NO NEED to ask other people for reasons to collect. YOU decide what it's worth or not!

Falk, when I say need to have, I'm asking about vintage broadheads that are still obtainable like the Deadhead. Tripper

There are alot of good heads on that auction site on a regular basis. If you get into it you will find many. Lots are available if you look at the old arrows people are selling. That is the fun of collecting, trying to find the heads on those arrows that the next guy doesn't notice. Either you get into it or you don't. It is a good hobby and there is much satisfaction from obtaining heads when you really get into it.

The collection my son and I are working on (with the help of a lot of Trad Gang members) has been a lot of fun for the both of us.

Tripper a little food for thought.Please keep in mind if and when you find good broadheads for sale.Please do....do your home work and ask as many ????? as possible....before spending lots and lots of dough.The point I'am getting at I guess without meaning to insulat anyone..Sometimes if some broadhead,collecters,sellers know your new to the broadhead collecting game...some will sometimes inflate the selling price a little....Again I don't want to insult anyone.Also like to mention there are quite a few reproductins of rare broadheads like Stemmler big games(made in the 1990's)....they are almost worthless.....But sometimes they will sell for as much as 200.00 plus on freebay.The buyer just does not know the real one from the reproduction...As a collecter myself I would say for sure to buy one of the broadhead collecters guides off you know who.And go from it.Please I do not mean to or want to insult anyone.. doing your research can save you some money sometimes.bowdoc

I read your "need to have" as "must have" - thought that it was what you meant. And I do have problems with just that. Ask a 'hardcore BH collector' and you'll get some answers which will cost you several thousand Dollars within seconds, but will only provide you with maybe five BH's for your display!

My suggestion for what you "need to have" is, that you ask yourself, what do you want to achieve. If you only look for a wide spread of different kinds and ages, you should have a nice collection for cheap pretty soon. But if you "need" just that one single model, which was assembled befor breakfast, that monday, and therefore lacks the last spotweld over here etc. etc. - get a second job for the money needed.

On the auction site restict yourself to a certain maximum and don't bid more then that. This way you can't step into a trap and you don't get into my way  

If the bug gets you, you will "NEED TO HAVE" them all.

As a collector for more than twenty years, I would suggest you join ABCC its $20 a year. With membership you get four news letters a year, that have lots of good articles on various heads and will give you an insight into collecting. As Falk said set a goal for your collection. Do you want collect them all or just glue on's or just screwins. There are several thousand broadheads out there with screw ins included. A lot of the advanced members in the club will help you get a start by adding a couple heads to your start. Its a good organization with some good guy's. You can find some common heads at reasonable prices on the auction sites, but until you know what is what you can spend way more than the head is worth.

Thanks aromakr and falk and everyone else.  I found the e-mail to join the abcc and I will pay my dues tomorrow.  I bid and won some bodkin and pearson deadheads on another site.  Has anyone ever found a head in a antique store or garage sale?  Thanks again, Tripper

Oh yeah G-sales 2nd hand stores flee markets the goodwill are great places to find old broadheads.I've picked up many good broadheads over the years out of those places......Glenn StCharles Mickey Finn and Thunderbolt both at a flee market the same day.Thats just to name a few..Broadhead collecting is great fun..it can get a little spendy sometimes,but fun...Here's one of my all time favorite broadheads....Know what it is ????

1953 Glenn StCharles Mickey Finn pin mounted to wants left of a Bill Sweetland Forgewood shaft with a head shrinker inside.I used it to arrow a black bear in Canada...They seemed to work OK.But the Finn had a spot weld right at the tip.It was almost best to file that spot weld out to prevent breakage on impact.If you look close you will see thats what was done to the one in the pic before using it.I don't collect as much as I used to but still enjoy picking up a few here and there...bowdoc
