Does anyone Call cougars?  Have never hunted a cougar, but sounds Like a great hunt

Walking into a bar and calling out "Drinks are on me!" usually brings a cougar or two in!     :D

i've used rabbit in distress to bring them in before. also used one of them critter gitters, i attached the hide from a previous rabbit for the scent. came in within 2 hours. my buddy shot it with his rifle before it came close enough for me. he got a little nervous about my 48# selfbow. lol. i was in a fashioned ground blind and he was in a tree stand 100 yards out.

I have called in a couple on accident. Cow calling during elk hunts. Makes me wonder, if I have seen two, how many others were there in all my years of elk hunting.

I've called one small tom in and a small dispersal age cat. I used lion sounds with prey sounds. I can make a kitten whistle without a machine and got the second one that way.
Both were done on the job and I couldn't use a bow.

Used a varmit call to bring one within 20 yards once. If that cat would have been as easy to kill as it was to call we would have a dead cat.

A couple of years ago a rancher friend had lions on his ranch.  I hunted a few days calling with rabbit and faun bleats.  I never saw one even though there were tracks everywhere. My friend one day asked if I'd seen any?  I said "no".  Then he said "uh, well they saw you!"  Spooky.

You might get lucky and be in the right spot to call one in but in my opinion your odds would be only slightly better than calling in a unicorn. Cougars have a huge "home range" and travel long distance. They stay in a particular area if they have reason to be there. They are best hunted with dogs because they are short winded. If the dogs strike a fresh track, it's only a matter of time before the cat is treed. Best of luck!

once saw Wayne Carlton do an elk calling clinic at an outdoor show.  After the clinic, we sauntered over to his booth, where he had a video playing of a he and a partner calling in bears (Colorado).  At one point, they filmed a lion that had come in to the call.  Wayne told us that the cat had absolutely no fear of them when they tried to "shoo" it.  Neither had a firearm, or a lion tag.  The lion followed them all the way to their truck (5 miles), at times crouching and coming within 10 yards.  Wayne said it was one of the scariest experiences he's had, and gave him a deep respect for the predatory nature lions....

While elk hunting I have had 2 come in to cow elk estrus call.Kind of spooky.They usually dont make a sound coming in.

Do not do it buy your self .They come in out here while calling coyotes. I will not call in the hills any more with out a partner . They come in stalking and you might never see them.

same as a couple others...called one in while elk hunting ;using a cow call...he came in to about 20  feet...like a ghost...I was looking the other direction...when I turned the other way there he was...had his butt up and head down...kneading the ground with his front paws...I stood up and hollered at him and he just walked away ...took a good ten years of my life with him...it literally  was a knee knocker for me ...
