I read about this early this morning.

We would do well to respect this possibilty with every wild animal close encounter.

This particular animal was a known problem child. It is a tradgedy that the previous corrective actions were uneffective.

God bless him and his family.

They do have those daggers on their head....and they will kill each other when they fight.

Heck my goat attacked me and anyone else came in the yard... the electric company used to call about the goat, not my Shepherd or mastiff...

My grandfather had a neighbor with a rooster so ornery he attacked anyone who came within 10 feet of the hen house. He would draw blood through rubber boots with his spurs. A couple folks darn near needed stiches after.

Any critter with a mind to can put a hurt on ya.

Was talking to a buddy of mine about this incident, and he reminded me of the time that he and another guy were cornered by a nanny with a kid after they bumped them while climbing a narrow trail in the Purcells.
My scariest experience in the bush hasn't been bears or cougars, but a whitetail buck that thought i needed to be challenged...

That goat should have been buzzard food a long time ago.

I drew on and harvested a mountain goat years ago and as I researched them it was evident of their aggressive behavior. A full grown billy could be something to be reckoned with. It is a shame that this goat was not killed when it first began showing aggressive behavior, and attempts to pacify it were having to be repeated and especially in a National Park where hiking is allowed. Hopefully we have learned something from this. My prayers go out to his wife and family.

A real shame that could have been prevented. Never thought of wild goats as potentially dangerous until I saw this.

Great! Now I gonnna have nightmares.

I've watched billies sparing together when I was a Ranger in Glacier National Park.  Gained a huge respect for Mt. Goats.  Their horns were clacking together so fast that I couldn't even see them move.

Yeah, I've always wondered, what if deer decided on "fight" instead of "flight".....would make walking to and from the stand in the dark a little more interesting.

A tragedy for the family, for sure. Nonetheless, I  am always amazed at those that feel there should be no danger in the nature.  Safest way to watch animals is in a zoo or on tv, but I prefer to keep some of the wild in the wilderness. Jmho.

In the nat parks it is truly scary to see people going up to large stags with huge headgear, all trying to get close enough seemingly to touch them.  People don't seem to see the potential danger.  I remember Gene Wensels story about grabbing a wild deer by the antler, just to see what would happen.

Truly a tragedy that could have been avoided if the authorities had taken the proper course of action.

Sorry for the family and the individual, however if you allow critters to be shot due to real or perceived "aggression" then we take the wild out of nature. Monday morning quarterbacking is always 20/20. This is extremely rare and could not be predicted. IMHO
