QuoteWonder what the post count record is for a thread on Tradgang ? Can we break 300 with this one guys ? Who would have thunk it , haha ???
I think the thread "Old Duffers were young once too" holds the record at over 600 post. I started that thread too..   :readit:  I don't think "Grits" will beat it...   :biglaugh:

After this thread everyone went and ate some grits. Now the grit stock is up and the mackerel stock is still at the bottom   :campfire:

I was a young 20yr old, single Air Force rookie and got stationed in South Carolina. Me and a buddy "got lucky" one night and the next morning the girls cooked us a southern breakfast, which included grits(slow cooked, not the instant sh$t), home made biscuits, eggs and thick cut bacon. "What are these??" "Oh those are grits","just put on some butter and salt and pepper on them, darlin" Been LOVING THEM ever since!! THE BEST BREAKFAST GOING! They have to be the slow cooked kind tho.

I'm with Ron! I bet it never makes 300. But having said that, I never thought it would go over 3 or 4 to start with.. Boy! Was I wrong!!!

Buckwheaties maybe I wasn't served them by the right folks...lol Well let me rethink that, how buzzed were you guys? I know they were close to 10's when you made the choices you did but what were they when you woke up? 2's or still 10's...lol

Hey Mudd, Can't remember the girls, only the grits.. LOL. South Carolina was TOUGH for single GI's, all the local rednecks had em corralled.

I hate to admit it but I do have instant grits in my truck camper.  Please keep it between us on TG so my "Good Ole Boy" card doesn't get pulled.

Boil some water. Dump the instant grits in a bowl. Add a sprinkle of bacon bits, dash of salt and some pepper for a quick breakfast before hitting the woods.

Well, after reading this, I've just had 2 fried (in bacon grease) SPAM sammiches. White bread, mayo on one, ketchup on the other.

Both delicious, with a slight nod t'wards the ketchep version, but now my left arm feels all tingly & wierd........

God bless, dduM

PS: Robtatto the best thing for that is a big bag of pork rinds with Tabasco sauce and jalapeno stuffed with cream cheese, mushrooms and real hot peppers then wrapped in bacon and eaten very hot, straight off the grill.

Grits - I can take 'em or leave 'em!

But a   Banana Cream Pie like my mom made the other day (not the instant pudding type but cooked filling)     ...Oh man!!!

I wish I had a piece right now.

Everyone who loves grits should try course ground grits. You can get them from Bradleys Country Store in Tallahassee.Much larger than the standard "grit". They take a while to cook but just get better over time. I usually crock pot them for about 1 solid day and serve with fish, then the next day for breakfast etc..If they thicken up just add water.

Tried them once Don, they got bigger when I chewed em instead of smaller   :biglaugh:

I would really like to hear what  some of our overseas "brothers of the bow" think about grits or a good hunting breakfast   :saywhat:

I'm coming over for dinner!!!  I have to eat stuff like that when everyone is gone from the house.  :jumper:
Just one more step please!

I have lived in Georgia for 40+ years and I would eat snails before grits!

I've been eating grits with butter, salt, and black pepper most mornings now since this thread started.  I drop a couple over easy eggs on top.  It's excellent but I can't say it sticks with me any longer than most other meals...  Guess that's why I'm gettin' bigger instead of the other way around.     :goldtooth:   todd

The only bad "grits" I ever had was in Brooklyn, NY. Yeah, being that far north should have turned on a light in my head, but I was just overcome with the thought that we might finally have introduced some true breakfast-related culinary class to a previously unknowing segment of our society. Well, I don't know what these things were, but they sure as hell weren't grits. I told they waiter that they were good though, as he seemed very pleased to be able to serve something traditionally Southern to a visitor. (As soon as I started talking he knew I was not from Brooklyn).

As for the snails mentioned above by frankwright, don't worry about not eating them. I will gladly eat your share. I love 'em.

Just don't try to get me to eat liver. That was the first time (age five) that I ever openly defied my Dad and won. I had a sore butt, but I did NOT eat the liver. I'm now 60 and still won't touch it. Don't want brains in my eggs either.
