Makes easy camp food. Fresh fish off the grill, Corn Tortillas wrapped in tin foil and heated on the Coleman Stove or grill, precut Cabbage, Cilantro, Med to Hot Salsa, squeeze of lime and a cold Beer fresh out of the ice chest. Yep, goes real well above 8000' after a long day on your feet.

We love fish tacos as well.  It is the only reason I keep bass.  We do use all types of fish however and I bet cobia does make great tacos.  I will try the cabage this week.  However, if I ever purchased catfish my grandpa would turn over in his grave.  That man could catch a catfish in a road ditch!

Bump up an old thread.

My goal this Summer is to master grilled fish taco's on the BBQ.

I'm looking for a good, heart smart sauce to put on the taco's. I see some listed with yogurt as the base. I've been playing around with Greek pineapple yogurt with Sriracha chili sauce. It's pretty good. I'm going to try Sriracha with mango yogurt.

The recipe on page 1 with fat free mayo as a sub may work too.

Having heart/cholesterol issue's, I'm looking for low fat options for the sauce. I also want a little kick. Nothing too hot however, because kids will also be eating. Anyone use any?

As for store bought fish on the grill, what's the best fish for fish taco's where it holds together better as opposed to falling apart?

Thanks in advance.

That is a tough question
Some people use inexpensive Costco Salmon, but it is not my favorite in taco's ymmv

Southern California's typical fish taco's are
Rock fish/Halibut/Shark/White Sea bass those are my favorites.
Mahi mahi, Ono, Ahi, Albacore are very good but have been priced out of being used as taco filler's (unless its yesterdays fresh lol)

See a lot of Tilapia, Baasra tacos now, because those are inexpensive freshwater "sustainable" fish, and I live in a politically correct area.
They work pretty well even for a fish snob like me

I live on the ocean, so my choices are different than most
My last taco was a smoked Albacore (fresh caught local fish) from a little town north of me called Cayucos, holy smokes one of the best I have ever eaten.

I think I threw off the hunting community with the words "heart smart".       :D          ;)

Low fat often isn't what many think when making certain dishes, but the stents in my heart make me look for healthier options whenever possible. But I still like to cook, eat and enjoy great foods. So sometimes you have to invent your own recipes.

Tilapia is easy to get frozen. We often have lots of people over by the pool in the Summer, so I'm looking for good and cheap vs best and expensive. I could be making taco's for up to 15-20 people.

I use grilled catfish chunks ! with all the nasty red and brown stuff trimmed off of course !!  i use a griddle on the stove and add butter and some cajun blackened seasoning. cook until firm and put in hot flour tortillas with the sauce mentioned on page one, with some ranch salad dressing added to it. Then add shredded cabbage and either pineapple salsa or peach mango salsa. They are spectacular !!! I tried all this about a year ago when iread the thread, and have been tweaking it every since. Friends and family rave about them !! Pretty much got the whole recipe from this thread !! Way to go fellow Tradgangers !!

Halibut works great.
