I have shot split finger for over 20 years but have struggled for some time now with consistency and want to do some experimenting with 3 under. My question is, where do you anchor with a 3 under hold-index finger to canine or middle finger to canine? Also, is a 3 under tab necessary or will my split tab work just fine?

A split tab will work just fine, especially if there is no finger separator on it. I've ran 3 under for years with the Eichler split tab.

To gain the benefit of moving to 3 under, you will want to use the same anchor point or a higher anchor point than you did with split.

The whole intent is to get the arrow closer to the eye for smaller gap management for your subconscious or conscious mind regardless if you're an Aimer or instinctive archer.

Lowering your anchor point after switching to 3 under will negate the benefits and you'll not notice any significant change in accuracy at close range shooting. (30 yds and under)

You do whatever works best for you.  Experiment & find out.

Personally, I use a middle finger in the corner of my mouth.  With my heavy for weight arrows, I have about a 25 yard point-on and a 9" gap out to about 18 yards.  But Past 25 yards, I can "face walk" with an index anchor and that point-on is extended to 35 yards and the gap opens up to about 20" out to about 30 yards.  I've never bothered to find out what the gap & POD would be with an olympic-style chin anchor.

The more I learn about archery & all its styles and forms, the more I see that there are very few hard and fast rules.  Start with what has worked for others and experiment from there.

Start with a nock point 1/8" higher than you use for split, and stay with it for a while until you have settled into shooting 3 under.  At some point it would be a good idea to bare shaft tune to find out where your nock point really should be.

BD-try it and you will never go back to split finger! My shooting improved immediately! Also, you will have to raise your nocking point about a 1/2". At least this will be a good place to start! Your old shooting tabs will work fine as well!! Good Luck!

I shot split for 40 yrs.
It was a slow transition for me but I'm glad I stuck with it.
I dont think one method is any better than the other.
I switched becuse I have always struggled with nock pinch due to a crooked index finger on my string hand.
Give it an honest try, it may take a while to get use to it.
I anchor with my index finger under my cheek bone, so there's not much difference in elevation from split finger for me.

Years ago a friend told me that he shot 3 under because it kept him from shooting high on close shots at deer.  When I tried it, I always got nock high when I bare shafted.  It also made my bow very LOUD!  I stayed with split fingers.  I might want to try it again this off season on my back up bow.  Any suggestions on what to do different? Thanks.

I anchor my middle finger tip to the corner of my mouth and touch the feather to the tip of my nose. I adjust feather position on my arrows accordingly. But we all have different facial anatomy and mobility so...

I grew up shooting compounds with fingers and always shot split. When I went to stick bows I shot split then thought, hey I'll try this three under thing. I shot so much better I thought it was cheating!

For me, it was a slow transition but I'm glad I stuck with it.
I dont have to worry about nock pinch. For me the biggest thing was getting the push/pull shooting 3 under.
Relax your hand with a deep grip.
For me, I dont end up with much pressure on the ring finger.
After experimenting with finger pressure I preferr drawing with almost equal pressure on my fingers but at full draw most the pressure will be on the middle finger.
Some like more pressure on the index finger but for me it feels more repeatable with middle finger.
I set my silencer a little lower on the bottom limb.
Once I get it ingrained the noise goes away.
I do think some bows are just louder than others but I think it's more of a diferent sound than it is louder.
Just stick with it.
