This one shot was just too cool - I just had to posterize it in photoshop, I could feel the arrow flying and hitting, the whole emotion of that shot, hope you guys don't mind   :)

Would make an awesome window decal     ;)

Cool poster! Thanks for all the compliments guys. John and Mudd, it was really nice meeting you both and you are welcome at our place anytime! I had a great time hunting with everyone and can't wait to do it again.
Here are some of our pics from the end result.

AND for the record, the day of the hunt, my phone says we walked 5.9 miles and took 12,252 steps. It is a very challenging hunt but more fun than you can imagine!

I was suppose to go back with Don n Sky this weekend with another group....but it was too hog for the dogs the guides said.  We were going after chukar and I was going to use that latest head you sent me.  I sure hope I get a chance to try it before it gets to hot for sure.
i hope its cooler there than it is here in illinois. i think were about done for the year. that camera work is second to none. I wouldnt want him to follow me after watching you guys shoot all day. He would get bored watching me shoot.

Great hunting. Better than any hunt i ever been on for sure

i really wanted to be there. huh what a fun.

btw, how many arrows have your lost guys?

curiocity: is it safe to shoot an arrow like this while everybody around?  :)
these are not the droids you are looking for.

inksoup,

This hunt WAS an absolute BLAST!!! As far as arrows lost....I think there were two arrows that weren't lost, but weren't usable after what happened to them. I'll let Terry and Mudd tell those stories. As far as safety in the hunting group we usually could get set up in a horseshoe type setup around where the dogs were pointing at birds and when the bird flushed everyone had an opportunity to shoot safely....BUT you had to be super quick on the draw... More to come I promise.

I have to take the blame for at least one broken arrow as my arrow connected with someone's carbon shattering it.

I guess karma made sure to even up the score because on the very next bird my quail "mojo'ed" arrow was tracking on it's way toward the quarry when it was cut into.

I found the end with the flu-flu's but my talon point was lost forever.

I will say that I never once felt we had any issues with safety nor any lack of opportunities for getting shots.

Twice I either waited to take my shot or just never took it for safety concerns.

The 1st time I was on the backside of a brush line when a quail got up and was flying straight at me. That would have made for a great shot except I knew there were hunters in that direction. I followed the bird past me before I made my shot. My arrow just skimmed the belly of that bird. If I had connected on that one I'm sure folks for at least one county away would have heard me celebrating...lol

The second time was on one of the last birds( a runner). It broke out of the tall grass running from my right to left. A perfect opportunity for a "running pig" shot but just as I hit anchor out of my peripheral vision I caught sight of one of the dogs streaking toward the bird with every ounce of strength he could muster. I knew there was a pretty good chance I might just as easily hit the dog as the bird so thus ended that shot for me.

Overall... a great hunt with a group of awesome guys.

If there was any issue at all with my well being it was that I forgot to bring water as did a few others.

I was dehydrated by the end of the hunt.

God bless,Mudd

Thanks again to Don, Skyler, Terry, and of course Lloyd for the pics of the hunt. I have to say Lloyd is a GREAT photographer, and a fine southern gentleman. I had the pleasure a few times to talk with Lloyd while on the hunt and he's a really nice fella. I'll try and get in the story about Saturday afternoon and evening's events, but alas, I have to finish up a report at work so it'll be a little later.

Wow, great pictures, shooting and stories. Thanks for taking us along.

And, look at all that Pheasant Kiev in the making (one of my favorite recipes for pheasant). Take the breasts off in one piece and stuff it with butter and herbs. Coat in eggwash and bread crumbs, deep fry for a few minutes till golden brown and then to the oven for 20 minutes.  Before all that take the legs and carcass and make a stock that you then make into a gravy to pour over the top of pheasant and seasoned rice when done. Yum.     :campfire:
