Great Northern Traditional Longbow Owners

I have a GN Brushbow and it is fast. However my tendons in my left rotator cup have become thick and stuck toghther and I need surgery. Could not shoot but two 3D shoots last year and had to stop becasue of pain in bow arm not drawing arm. I could give you a great deal on a GN Brushbow in great shape 67@27 and I think 62 inches long right hnaded. $275 plus shipping if anyone is interested and I have pictures to send if you want.

I own a 68" GN Traditional with osage lams. It is one of the most beautifully crafted bows I've ever owned. The straight grip is totally different from that of a hill style. The one I own has a "thump" to it, probably due to the osage, but not anything I'd call hand shock. The 450+ string tames it down better than the Dacron. It is a wonderful shooting bow and very well crafted as is all of the GN bows. I also own a CG Special with copperhead skins and moose antler tips. It too is an osage bow.

If anyone is thinking of purchasing a GN, I wouldn't hesitate to highly recommend them. I also had a Fireball which I should have kept.

Hey Tom,I have Darins Great Northern Traditional longbow,68",46#@28".I don't normally go that low in weight.but I sure do like this one.I love the classic handle,smoothness of draw and how quiet she is.The workmanship is superb,reminicent of bows from the past.Darin sent an SBD 8 strand D10 string with it and boy she shoots nice.This bow has a permanent place on my rack.You won't go wrong.

Steve, what other bows is it comparable to?  I had a Dwyer original with narrow, deep core, but more reflex to the limbs.

Hey Mike,I had a Dwyer Original,real nice bow.I like the grip on the GN,nothing really compares to it.Mines osage,its a little heavier physically than Boo or yew,but its really mild mannered . Less shock than a Hill.More comparible to a NM superior I had.At 46# this thing really throws an arrow.Pound for pound one of the best Hill style bows I've ever shot.

How was the 68" length for you.  Tough to maneuver?  I'm asking because I'm looking for a good D bow and these have always just seemed so elegant and functional.  Thanks.

68 inches has never presented a problem,I now prefer it over anything.It sure makes your release aolt easier.I've always canted a bow to shoot.

I to shoot mostly Northern Mist longbows but at one time owned a critter getter and lode it. Only reason I got rid of it was somebody  put quiver bushings in the riser and I just was not comfortable with 70# with a 62" bow with such a slim riser. If not for that I would still own the bow. I have not found another to replace it yet.

I have had many of the G.N longbows and recurves.

I had one of thier traditional longbows.I think it was 66 inches.It had their Broomhandle grip.I like that grip alot personally.Its smaller with little bit of width.It has a little contour to it.Looks plain.But its a little bit different than most Hill style grips.You would notice it if you shot one.I found the grip was stable for me,solid and comfortable!I saw it comes with thier locator grip now as well.

The bow had all Osage limbs.Very strong,stable and solid feeling when shot.I like Osage when used on deep cored longbows with heavy hunting arrows personally.Its so strong and durable.

My newest Hill style bow has Osage back and belly lams with bamboo cores.Shoots great looks good.

I went through a period of time that GN longbows were all that I shot. The build quality was excellent and I felt the bows did their job for a simply designed bow. The Critter Gitter was my favorite of the line and what I used most of the time. Since then I have moved on to Robertson longbows and the biggest difference really comes down to the appearance, The Robertson has more of a wow factor but that is only a personal preference and has nothing to do with performance.

I do love the older threads, mostly because nothing is new so it's good to read the others, plus gives opportunities for things to be added.
