Colonel

Thanks for the posts on this thread - I ordered 2 of the books described here, that I have not read.

I like:
Hunting Trips of a Ranch Man by Theodore Roosevelt
and
The Wilderness Hunter by the same author.

Teddy tells some good stories!

Talondale

I know some have mentioned the books by Gary Paulsen - Hatchet, Brian's Hunt, etc.  Haven't read them but I'd like to read them to see if I should add them to my kid's reading library.

McGeeM

All of the above and Jake "Decent into Madness" is a great read! It felt as though you were watching this guy go nuts right in front of you.

I would also recommend The Winning America Series by Allen Eckert
It includes the Frontiersman, Conquerers, Wilderness War I can't think of the others right now, but there are 6 books in the series.

Lost Arra

The Still Hunter by Theodore S. Van Dyke
(a favorite of Teddy Roosevelt)
Not specifically bowhunting but a how-to classic about hunting deer.

I love this statement about deer hunting in general:

"Few things are so fatal to ultimate success as an early germination of the idea that you are a "pretty smart chap on deer". It is almost as ruinous as the idea that you are a poet. The teachers you need are disappointment and humiliation."

I've had my share of those teachers.

Hatrick

I just finished The Old Man and the Boy by Robert Ruark. Even though it's not about bowhunting I would HIGHLY recommend this book. It personifies traditional values as it relates to hunting and growing up in general. I'm now about half way through The Old Man's Boy grows Older.

As mentioned, Coyote Soul, Raven Heart by Reg Darling is another fine read. Also, Bows on the Little Delta by Glenn St. Charles.

All these books have been mentioned and for a GOOD reason.
The scent of Autumn is like food to the hunters soul.

Mark Baker

I like all of the above.   Among the better bowhunting stories I've read, "Ishi and Elvis", by Jim Hamm is a great one.
My head is full of wanderlust, my quiver's full of hope.  I've got the urge to walk the prairie and chase the antelope! - Nimrod Neurosis

Here's a link you might find interesting.

Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it.

Goodbye Shiner you were always a good dog.

Benny Nganabbarru

"Archer in Africa" by Bill Negley

"Ishi and Elvis" by Jim Hamm

"The Adventurous Bowmen" by Saxton Pope
TGMM - Family of the Bow

Another Grizzly Adams book:
The Legend of Grizzly Adams by Richard Dillon
