Well, my time with "Hope" ended this morning with one last ditch hunt.  She and I were in a stand on a ridgetop in the dark, waiting for the light of dawn to break.  I always love being in a stand before daybreak and seeing the woods come alive, I'm sure many of you are the same.  This morning was foggy and damp, but about an hour after first light I could hear the steady shuffling of footsteps in the leaves and the crack of a branch as a large animal made it's way towards my little hiding spot.  This was one of those times when even though you could hear the animal from a distance, he was right on top of me before I saw him walking through the woods.  (I did mention it was thick didn't I?)  He was 20 yards away, his path would take him five yards in front of me if he continued....at 12 yards the little six point whitetail turned to his left and walked down the hill and away from any chance Hope and I had of making him dinner.

While my time with Hope is over, I will not forget the generosity and vision of the people that made this possible, and I will certainly not forget the hunts that she and I had together.

Thank you all for letting me participate in this endeavor.

Claudia, your up next, and she is on her way to you as we speak.

Thanks for putting plenty of Mojo on this little bow, David.  The great thing about putting your hands on a bow that other like-minded archers have held, is that the spirit seems to increase.  Whether we make a kill or not, we still add to the magic.
I'll keep everyone posted on the exploits of Hope in the Bluegrass.

Blessings to All,

Howdy there, Gang!  Hope and I have a hunting report   :D  !  I don't have time for the details and a picture at this moment, but I'll connect later with the whole story and the evidence.  But, just to wet your whistle, I will tell you that Hope scored on a fat Kentucky doe at 4:30 CST this afternoon!  Heck, I haven't even had her four hours    .
More later...I've got to get her quartered up...

For hunting to have a future, we must invest ourselves in future hunters.

Okay ya'll...here is the pic (I hope) and the story will follow.  By the way, the pup in the photo is Henry, my new wirehaired dachshund puppy.  He was having almost as much fun as me   :D !

Hope arrived at my place at 12:45pm today.  After getting her out of the shipping case and putting her together, I grabbed a selection of arrows to see what she liked.  She chose Gold Tip 35-55 with a 50 grain brass insert and a 220 grain point.  Cool.  I installed a set of El Grande Grizzlies, took another couple of test shots and looked at the time.  Hmmm..1:40pm...just enough time to get cleaned up and get into my hunting blind for the afternoon.
I arrived at my ground blind at the end of a clover field amidst intermittent drizzle.  I settled in at 3 pm and a fawn was quick to appear after only 15 minutes.  She wandered around a bit before heading back into the adjacent woods.
Then, at 4:15 a doe appeared right in front of my location, but she was facing me the entire time.  No shot.  She fed away from me in short order and I relaxed into my folding chair.  Then, I heard the sound of a deer brush against foliage and when I looked up, another doe was making her way toward me.  She stopped perfectly broadside at 13 steps, I came to full draw, and let Hope do her thing.  The doe ran 80 yards through the field and dropped.  No tracking job necessary   :D  .
Of course, my good fortune means that Vermonster will get her a bit sooner than expected.  Why let the mojo go stale?!!  I'll keep her a few more days and then be sending her on to VT.  I hope she's as lucky for the next hunters as she was for me tonight

Wow Claudia, way to go! You don't waste any time, do you? How many tags do you have? Sounds like you have a great hunting spot; go for a monster buck now.

Thanks, Chuck.  Ky gives hunters unlimited doe tags...so I'm using those to fill the freezer.  If Mr. Big comes along, he'll be in danger as well, but if not, I'm still as happy as a lark!

Claudia,
I meant to commend you on the great picture in my previous post. You did a great job of presenting the results of your successful hunt in a very professional and tasteful manner. Love the big smile. Good job.
Started training that Doxie yet?

Chuck

Thanks, Chuck.  Henry is just 12 weeks old and will begin his training with the next deer I get.  In the mean time, I have Albert, a two year old wirehair doxie that is a tracking machine...not to mention a great foot warmer!
