Well done Sir and fine buck-especially for a first. If meat is your purpose don't forget does eat well also, without the head gear. Congrats !
The essence of the hunt for me is to enter nature and observe+ return safely occasionally with the gift of a life taken.

I am a horrible trophy hunter. 🤣. I want meat first and antlers second. Just walked in from doe patrol.  Same tree as the big one and had 3 does at 15 behind me. They were scared off by two women talking so loud it was insane. Then 5 minutes later I had a huge doe walk fast into my lane at 18 yards but by the time I was in position she was already too far. Not 5 minutes later I understood why she was walking so fast. A old guy was walking his dog through the middle of the woods down the deer trails and not the hiking trail! I took that as my sign to call it a morning. 🤦‍♂️🤷

When I have that much time my head usually gets in the way and I have a clean miss.  This time I thought the buck had left in the heavy Mountain Laurel behind my stand when all of a sudden a tree 15 yards behind me started shaking.  It was the buck rubbing it!  I became laser focused on him and knew there was only one spot I had a possible lane and was watching him to go there. He stepped into that lane and his head and shoulders went behind a good size tree looking right in my picture.  I saw a hole and knew the tree was 13.3 yards. I held at the bottom of the chest and released.  It looked perfect. The deer ran out of the woods and turned right at the parking lot and ran in a semi circle dropping 30 yards in front of my stand.

I went back yesterday on doe patrol and took this picture.  I was so focused on the deer the small hole you see the tree on the right and leaves on the ground is where my arrow went through. It's probably not a foot wide circle that was about 6 yards out from me. At the time it seemed like a big hole. I am now shocked it made it through.
