About 10 yrs ago I shot a big Ohio doe with 160 snuffer on flightmate adapter and 2014 shaft out of a 40# Bob Lee Dark Archer ( my daughters bow) just to see how well it would work. Broadside at about 20 yrs all the arrow passed through but the fletching and the arrow flipped out on the first jump. 40 yd bloodtrail. I think that a fairly heavy arrow (450gr or more) and good arrow  flight are the key for good penetration ...........YMMV
Bowhunting is "KILL and EAT" not "Catch and Release".....Semper Fi!

40#+ with a 10 gpp arrow and a sharp Snuffer will work.  Heavier bow and arrow is always a plus, but shot placement is key no matter what.

John,  I just noticed you're from Zville. I'm just a stones throw away over in Nashport by Dillon.

My plan for the Big River mild D/R longbow which pulls 53.5# at my draw is to dig up some 29" wood arrows spined 66-70# from my stash and shoot 160 gr Snuffer heads.  Total arrow weight about 600+ grs.  Have CE Heritage 250's flying good with 190 gr tip on 100 gr brass broadhead adapter, but I prefer wood.

Shot this old girl last night. Last day of our season. 44# @ 28" big snuffer and 2016. Total arrow weight around 580 grains. Arrow penetrated completely to the fetching on opposite side of her then fell out as she whirled away. Shot was about 18 yards. Probably one of the better shots I've made.

When my boys were young they killed quite a few deer and some bears  they used 125gr. Snuffers out of 40 lb. bows .
