The post office dropped off a stick of maple from Mike and Kyle at RosewoodArchery for the bowshop. The walnut was reclaimed from a very old percussion cap double barrel shotgun stock. The stock and action had been brought to me to try fix but in the end the owner said keep it or throw it away.

The plan is to lay a g10 i-beam in the walnut for the backside of the riser, lama and glass surround it with the rest of the walnut on the belly side being layered with ebony ply.

The limbs will be maple under clear glass on the back but with black on the belly side. I am open to a stain for the maple or I can airbrush something but I didn't want the lams to look too busy. Any suggestions for a stain?Translucent Green?

The black belly side glass may have so airbrushed work done before the finish is sprayed on. Still undecided.

I've had really good luck with Keda Dye stains. They are a powder concentrate you mix with Acetone, Denatured Alcohol, or Lacquer Thinner, etc.

A little goes a long way and is fairly cheap on Amazon.

You can blend the different colors to make what you want. I used straight brown on this curly maple to make it pop and blend in with Bocote on this one. I used a pretty light mix and the maple was stabilized so it may not have taken as deep/dark as it could have.

That's gonna be nice Stic! I'm might start on my swap bow tomorrow. I almost have my other projects done.
Anyone ever used Knobthorn wood? I used a piece in one of the last bows. It's pretty stuff but it sands like rock. Curious if got a super hard piece or if it's all that way.

Got started on a pattern for footed limb veneers and glued up some mosaics.
Never done either one of these before so I have learned grain orientation is critical to the tight radius' and I am having better luck with TiteBond wood glue vs epoxy for holding the pieces together.

kennym

I have 3 bows to glue up and a coffee table to build, then I'll be back on the trade bow!  :o

Hope my victim likes these veneers. I had a lot of fun learning how to do them.

Thinking about growing some stain on them to make the curly pop. What do you guys think?

Bottom picture is just acetone to see what they look like under glass.
