Hey Curt,

Kinda thought the daily hunt reports went on the daily hunt report thread..        :campfire:      :campfire:      :campfire:

That road goes out and forks beyond where you can see ..It does hook right back behind me...It is hard to see but it goes off steep and deep, both sides of the road...It is basicly the ridge top...I am hoping to catch traveling bears using it from one ridge to the other...According to the tracks I was seeing they are using it..

Thanks for the luck guys...The bear hunting just keeps getting better as the season goes on...The weather hasn't been the best,YET!!!

My buddy bought that Kodiak back in 1974 right out of high school...I had a Wing Gull and he bought it so he could hunt with me...After only a year the compounds called to him and it was in his closet for many years...I finally bought it from him about 10 years ago...His kids had put a small ding on the edge of the limb...It has just started to look worse so on the advice Bowdoc I am not going to shoot it until I can get some attention to it...

Good thing I have a WHOLE bunch of bows...LOL  I did want to shoot a bear with it though...   :archer:

I got down there about noon...Sat in my stand for 3 hours or so..

I watched the wind bow UP the road, then DOWN the road...It blew THIS way, then THAT way..I was SURE that everything in the area knew exactly where I was...LOL

Took off sneaking the little roads again...

About 4:00 I looked down and,   BEAR!!!

Zoomed in..

Pretty sure it is a sow...

Anyway,I know better, but decided to try a stalk...Had to go back to the top, cross over to her side of the ridge and drop in on her...She looks like she is in the open, but it is a small area and there are several hundred yards of nasty coast brush and STEEP ground to get down to her...Took about 40 minutes and she was gone..Probably just fed on out...Even if she was still there it would have still been a impossible shot..There never was much of a chance, but hey,ya gotta try...   :bigsmyl:

Hard climb back to the top...

Hiked on out to another road I wanted to sneak..Only about 1/2 hour light left...I just started out when I spotted a bear walking toward me on the road...He seemed to spot me about the same time, but didn't seem to know what I was...

He just stood there for the longest time, about 60 yards or so, just watching...It was getting dark and I had to do something,so I kissed at him a couple times...Well,he didn't like that, turned, went back up the road a bit, then dropped off..I hurried up there and peeked over the edge...I could see bits of him through the brush, but just not enough to shoot at...He was kinda on the small side anyway...

Best day yet..

This javelina was shot in West Texas on a hunt sponsored by Kent Ostrem of Mahaska bows (Also a TragGang sponsor). This boy is big, about 62lbs. The cool thing is that I got him with a bow Kent made from wood on this ranch where I got the javelina. The bow has a cat claw handle and arroyo limbs. 58", 47# @ 26".

Those teeth are razor sharp. They are one tough animal.

Kent is a great guy and a superb boyer. If you are interested in a javelina hunt, book one with Mahaska.

Todd, Joe and Tim GOOD WORK!!!
Bill did you get that bear yet???

Santiam

Good to see some succes..Congrats and great pics...

Bill,
I have slowed down a bit...Work has picked up and the weather has turned lousy...It is 75 miles to my area and it is a waste of gas in bad weather..I have went down some and it was more of the same...

I did have a blacktail doe walk under my stand, which gave me some hope on the swirling winds...Also there are not many deer in my area, probbly more bears than deer...LOL ..You can see her looking at me through the trees..She busted me getting my camera out..

Lots of action on the trailcam...Mostly all of bears...The only nonbear pic was of a bobcat...No deer on the camera...Thats why I was surprised when a deer came under...

This is a good boar I believe...He looks wet...

The weather is sposed to improve this afternoon and I have found a new spot for my tree stand...I am heading down to move it and hunt the afternoon...Leaving in a bit...I also have a new to me Kodiak hunter I am taking...That is bound to change my luck...

I will at least post a pic of my new location tonite...It is a cool spot, lots of sign and a good spot for wind direction I hope...
