Sparky, are you tillerin with the bow strung? is that why you have such a high brace hieght? Looks like she still a little stiff mid limb out. But I can only imagine how hard it is to tiller that design.

Sparky

Yeah it is Dano...gonna fine tune the tiller some more tomorrow. I was somewhat hesitant to get the outboard transitional areas bending to much. The brace is my usual 6 1/2" I use on all my selfbows. I do indeed tiller with my bows strung tho.
I added more pics...maybe these look a little better.

It looks like you got a handle on this one, probably be pretty easy to tweek those transitional areas later. Havin fun right along with ya Sparky.

Like I said early on, tillerin' that outer fade is the challenge on this design it appears.  Right mid limb loods stiff as a wedge Sparky, unless it's got twist in it.  You still got weigth to give?  By golly you got the string tracking center though.  Few men can stand over a stave and get that shot with a digital camera btw.

the Ferret

Can't get them strings running any more down the center than that. Good job Sparky.

You know he can take those kind of pics cause he's so dang tall David. The rest of us can't bend over far enough to get it centered without falling over ha ha
There is always someone that knows more than you, and someone that knows less than you, so you can always learn and you can always teach

DCM

Well, I'm reasonably tall.  I just can't lean far enough over to get past my belly without fallin on my noggin.  ;-)

Sparky

LOL that's funny David...
Thanks fellers, I will give up the weight if needed to nail the tiller on this one. I don't really have it to spare tho...might just turn out to be a girly wight bow...   :knothead:
I'm gonna bring the limbs around a little more tomorrow. Gonna try to leave the last 6" or so...where the profile stacks (ELB'ish) stiff if I can. I have a deflex spot on one end at the tip that is giving me fits.

**DONOTDELETE**

Now it seems to me that this design would benefit from a little in the handle movement, is that the design or is the handle stiff?

as well the TBB suggests that these bows were made backwards so that the outside of the tree would be the belly. Is this whats been done here? I would love to try that myself.

Linc

Sparky, Not yet.I'm still watching your progress though.I'm just finishing up a BBO and starting on a piece of Pennsylvania osage.I have a few bows to make before I tackle the VM.   :D

Ragi,
This particular design will have a stiff handle section. Based on the legacy dimensions the original may have had a bending handle section.
Some of the experts believe the original assumption to be incorrect on the back/belly controversy. They now believe the original bow was made from a sapling with the back of the bow being the outer side of the tree.
Linc, stay with it buddy...i'll be watching...

Sparky

Well she's finished. I call her "Kokopelli"...I'll let Dave research to find the meaning...
She took on about 1 1/8" of set due to my poor tiller skills and the fact that I couldn't seem to keep the wood dry. It always felt wet to me.
Anyway if ya wanna have a look ya can...i'll put up some strung and full draw pics tomorrow. This has been a fun one, but I doubt i'll make another.
