But his bow will remain steady, and his hands will be skillful; because of the hands of the Mighty One of Jacob, because of the Shepherd, the Rock of Israel,  (Genesis 49:24 [NETfree])

Jim,
Sorry to hear of your loss. My mom took the same path home and it is excruciating to watch and be so helpless. After she had passed I realized that I had been grieving the whole time, as each part of her became farther away. At the end there was more relief that her journey had ended than any other emotion. I pray you find peace and remember him when he was whole.

So sorry for your loss Jim, it is a tough thing to go through for all involved. It is a blessing to know they are no longer suffering, but that doesn't make us miss them any less.

I was with both my parents at the end, lost my Dad to Cancer and Mom to C.O.P.D. and was relieved when they passed due to the amount of suffering they had to endure. The only comfort I can offer is that the pain of losing them will ease some over time.

Prayers for your Dad and family.
