Old Threads/ old timers

I was searching old threads for some info on a garage sale bow (Wing SLM 70" 35#)$90 and found a "Wingnut" He passed a while ago:(  before I started lurking here.I enjoyed reading his Wing history threads.Any of you old timers know any other Bownuts who have passed or no longer post that contributed here? I would like to read their threads.

We have lost many of out Trad Gangers and other Traditional enthusiest over the years.  Each time we do, it is a great loss to the Traditional Community as a whole, and then as individuals for those that knew them persoally.  My greatest loss was with the Passing of Jack Howard a few years back.  Prior to that we lost Frank Scott, Curator of the Bear Museum.  Fred Bear, Howard Hill, Bob Swinehart and many others lived out many of our fantasies, and created some that we had never even though of.  

We still have many of these living legends among us, such as Glenn St. Charles, Jim Dougherty, Fred Ashabel, Doug Kitridge, and others.  We need to cherish them while we still have them with us, apprecaite their contributions and knowledge, and hope we can keep them around for as long as we can.  With the passing of each one, we loose our traditional pioneers, good friends, and a wealth of knowledge.

It is our responsibility as the carriers of the torch to learn as much as wecan from them to preserve our traditional heritage.  In time, you will be one of those wealths of knowledge that the Trad Community will rely on to keep the spirit alive.  Then one day, the now unborn enthusiests of our future will be morning our passing as their current legends lost.

Kurt, I think it's a Wing Slim Line Master introduced in the early by Head Ski '68 - 70. Early Head Ski catalogs were not dated so hard to nail down exactly.

In addition to the Slim Line Master, they introduced the International and competition target bow. Master went for $124.95, Competition at $174.95 and the International for $74.95. Also introduced were the Red Wing Pro $54.95 and Vantage Pro $84.95 hunting models.

The Master did not show up in the next brochure that I have in '72. The Competition went to a competition II and they introduced a low cost model, the Corsair at $55.00.

Attached are pics of My Masters. Top one has no S/N. I think it's a prototype.

The bottom one is a one-of-a-kind bow. Bill Stewart worked for Wing at the time and developed his famous cammed limb design. Bill said that he tried to get Bob, Fred and all the other master bowyers of the time, to market it but found no interest. The picture is a Master with the cammed limb design. (Bob wouldn't sign that one. He said "I didn't make that bow".       )

Jeeez Al,
You have some tough bows to come by,
I know the Head's, are not as sought after as the Wings, how are they for shooters?
My 19yr Daughter shoots the mellow yellow target Polar from the mid 60's I thought I'd pick this one up for her (lighter riser mass)

I agree about keeping the history alive, I was more looking for people like "wingnut", maybe not so well known away from us wierdo's.

Sadly, Wingnut, is also one of our recent lost mentors.  He knew more about Wing bows than Bob Lee does.  He also made some of the finest, most beautiful. cedar arrows as you wuill ever see.
