This year at the Baltimore Bowmen Tradition CLassic I puchased a Herters Perfection 69 from Killie. Rumors that I bought the bow because it is called a "Perfection 69" are unfounded. It is a very striking looking bow that zips an arrow quickly for a 38 pound bow. The "69" refers to the AMO. That makes it the longest bow I own. The bow is all riser with short skinny limbs - I believe this accounts for the quickness in the bow.

Anyhow, I digress. The point of this thread is to educate people on the Herters serial number. I know most of the readers here are already aware of how the Herters serial number works.

The serial number on mine is 6901163007.
The first 2 digits are the AMO (69)
The next 3 are the month that the bow was made (011 - or November)
The next 2 are the year the bow was made (63)
The next 3 are the number of that type of bows made that month (007).

With all the work we spend on dating bows, wouldn't it have been awesome if all bow companys would have done that? Imagine if Fred would have done that!

Bill that is a pretty bow. I have never seen one of the old Perfections of that length     :)     I have a 62" 1964 of that model. I love the lines and narrow limbs of those bows.

Yeah their serial number system is great. The only exception I have found is on their very first bows (late 50's or so) that the length designation is not so easy to understand? I have an old 1959 (I think) Herters and the first two digits are 10 ? It's actually 63 1/2" or so. Maybe somebody can explain?

EDIT:

the serial number is  100859261

Just remembered this one. !968 (I think) International Match Hunter 63 1/2"

The only two oddballs I have, all the others the serial numbers read "correctly"

Hhmm.. Come to think of it both bows are 63 1/2" long... I wonder if 10 is the description for that length Herters bow??
