Why is snap shooting more accurate for me vs holding?

after returning to trad gear after 40 years Im really struggling to find my style.  I have a 69", 33# tamerlane that as soon as I hit anchor and the site picture/feeling is right, I snap shoot and it works pretty good.  With my 58", 50# bear grizzly, if I try and snap, my follow through sucks and im all over the place at 10 yards.  If I hold for a three count, the extra weight on the string helps me with a smooth release and Im good to go.  Does anyone use both styles of shooting???

I think it would be pretty normal to struggle for a year or so to find your style after a 40 year absence.  Even after you think you've found it, leave your mind open to changing it again later on if something comes along you like better.  33# should be a comfortable weight to hold, or you could snap shoot it.  Keep trying them both for a while; pretty soon you should gravitate to one or the other without having to force it.  My experience is that once you settle in to a style, you will tend to shoot that way more and more until it becomes awkward to shoot any other way (without going through a retraining period).

Very well put, McDave. Hard to beat  experimenting until you find what gives you the best accuracy.

well, as im learning more about deep hook and other release elements now I think that the fact that im using the pads of my fingers (with a glove) is the reason for both styles working.  enough time before hunting season to work on that crucial element.  Im shooting ~ 150 arrows a day so im hoping im at a solid 20 yards by then, first arrow in the kill zone.
