Hunting Packs

Just wondering what packs yall use? I think that a fanny pack is alright for just hunting here close to home,but I took a trip to south Texas and really wished I had more room and maybe a couple of different compartment. I like the look of the Bison Gear fanny pack with the suspenders but wondered if they were comfortable to wear for along time?

I just got my Bison gear lost river pack today. I love it. Once you get it adjusted it rides perfect. It has more room than most people will ever need. It should also last as long as i do. Bison gear is a sponsor here plus you can get them in predator camo from greywolf woolens who is also a sponsor.

Now ya got lots of room for SUNFLOWER seeds and more SNICKER bars, for those long hours in the TREE STAND. Might even have room for Ferret's jerky and a ole shopping bag

I bought the Bison Outfitter model last year and used it for whitetail hunting and day hunts for elk.  It held all the gear I carry during the early hunts and I was able to strap on my heavy clothing for late season hunts.  Mine has the straps, insulated water bottle holder, and binocular pouch options, which I highly recommend.  I love the way it rides and adjusts.  My one complaint was stabilizing a heavy load when my friend got a 4x4 mule deer (of course it wasn't designed to carry this load); I had three quarters with the head and antlers tied on and it kept shifting.  I got the next size up, the First Trip Explorer, with the expandable compartment a couple of week back.  With the next deer or elk I will be able to bone the meat and carry a decent load on the trip to camp, comfortably.  I like the outfitter model for its size 98% of the time; I just need the ability to carry a heavier load 2% of the time.  My Outfitter pack is in new condition and is for sale.

Badlands all the way I've had a few diffrent packs from them and loved them all

second the badlands. I have the 2200 with the "batwing" configuration and it's great. I have had opportunities to pack whole elk quarters in this thing and it works really well. My only problem with it is that i get hot pretty easily. But now badlands has the new hypervent pack and that looks great, except you can't stick a quarter in it. Too bad. The hypervent also has the zipped pockets in the waistband, which I really like and the 2200 lacks.

Hey Chad,
Glad you like the pack!  I used it on an elk hunt last year, and a caribou hunt this year so it still has a ton of life in it.  I just had to go with the Badlands 2200 for when I hunt out west.  You got a good pack for a good price.

I use my hiking and backpacking gear. much better quality, much better thought-out and better made(thus better on your back) than "hunting packs": Camelback Peakbagger 500Ci,2 Mountainsmith packs, one 2000 ci and the other 5000 ci. I do have a little grey wool fanny pack that converts into a light backpack, made by Bisongear that I use around here for quick hunts

The Camelback Commander has served me very well for three seasons with no signs of wear. As I often hunt miles from my base at 10,000+, I carry more than most, and it's very quiet, stable and doesn't interfere with my shooting.

The other packs mentioned are great choices too.

I have several but one of my favorites that I use most is a Day One Fleece Pack, has several interior pockets and well made.

Day One Backpack...or Bison Gear Fanny. Either one will work fine, made to withstand abuse and will hold enough gear for a weeks hunt. I personally use the Day One is ASAT Bucksuede and I'm totally satisfied with it.

Vance, I love this thing! It will hold a ton of stuff and what it won't hold i can strap to it.  I doubt i will ever need the meat bag unless i get an elk or mule deer down out west somewhere.  :D  

Goose, The pack looks like it was never used. I'm sure it will last many years to come.

Rocky Mountain Yukon. Most comfortable, well designed pack I've ever used. Had/still have and use at one time or another just about all those mentioned above, but I still find myself carrying this one the most.

Good luck with your search, but remember...there's no ONE perfect pack...just the one perfect pack for YOU depending on what you're doing at that time!

Thank for all the input guys. I have a feeling that I am going to end up with a couple before its all over. Part of the problem is that I have never hunted the mountains or deep wilderness areas, but I hope to fix that soon. I want to get something that works good here at home but would be good for that type of hunting. thanks again. I think Iam fixing to start another post cause I just thought of another question.
