Fred Bear Polar ... makeover?

Maybe either a 1962 or 1967 ... ?

It's in a bit of a messy condition that I'd like to reasonably restore.  Needs sanding of both the zebrawood riser and old yellowed glass, then a spray of some kinda clear coat like MinWax PolyU - I think that's the route I'll take but any suggestions appreciated.

Don't want to sand off decals or serial number markings, hope they're under the first layer of clear coat.

Also Decals. 419 779 5426. Call afternoons.
Don't know if he still has them tho.
