Hey all,

I am the proud owner of my first KABAR USMC fixed blade knife.  I've never owned a knife with a blade this long.  On online acquaintance gifted it to me because he didn't need it and it needs some work.  I've cleaned the blade up to where I like it and it looks good with some patina on it.  At least I think it looks good.  I would like to get the tip sharpened to a better point though.

The main thing it needs is a new handle.  I have never done anything like this before.  The good thing is that KABAR sells a kit with all the parts needed to replace the handle, finger guard and pommel.  I think it's only $7 or $8, not including shipping.

What I'd like to ask about is how hard it would be to find someone to replace it for me.  If I took all the old handle off and sent it to the person with the kit included, how expensive do you think a job like that would be?  I really wouldn't care that much if the pieces in the kit were put in place and then sent back to me to let me shape the handle.  At least I could have some hand in getting it finished.

Any help or advice you care to give would be appreciated.
Thanks for your time.
