Knives in the Meantime

While waiting to take my 1850's era hunting dagger back to Boston so I can weld a new tang on, I finished up this little Keeslar flared finger guard hunting knife with antler scales OAL 7 1/2 inches with 3 1/2 inch blade of 1084 carbon steel. Another with Turquoise & Walnut handle..tippit

Thanks for the kind comments...I needed that. I gave these two knives as a Thank You for taking me fishing last spring. I was supposed to go again this year but my little tracking/hunting partner came down with leukemia. I stayed home to keep her comfortable and after 6 weeks let her rest in peace. I never received a note on the knives if they liked them or not...kind of a double whammy for the a summer I'd like to forget.

Great looking knives Jeff. I really like the overall size and blade profile on those. That looks right up my alley for a skinner. Just something small, light, thin, and sharp.

You need to send that knife back to me to improve the blade. They are a whole lot better now. Maybe I can twist your arm to make me a new sheath.

Are you joking about sending it back? I definitely can build more sheaths. Setting my shop up it's been at least 4 years since I had my own shop!

I'm not joking...but maybe the best way is to just make you a newer version. Draw what would be your preferred hunting knife on a piece of cardboard as to size & shape and send it to me. I don't make very many hidden tang knives as I just like slim knives.

I have a feeling that the blade edge might be a bit thick. Time, experience, and great Master Bladesmith teachers have refined my rolled edge. That's what I'd probably change on your old Keeslar style knife...plus I don't think I was hand finishing blades then either. So you can still send it back for a tune up.
