I just got given a large number of cedar laminations and was wondering if anyone knows if a cedar laminated recurve with E-Glass front and back would work out ok, I hate to just burn them, they are some good looking Lams, a nice variety of thicknesses too, unfortunately I think they are all parallels. any opinions??? I might even try doing my first build along

I know they will work well in a longbow!

I've made a few longbows with cedar also.  They've worked out well so far.  If you use them, wrap them in paper as soon as you done grinding them, until you lay them up.  Exposure to light will make them "brown up".  Keeping them wrapped will keep them more purpleish.

Are you talking Eastern Red Cedar, Western Red Cedar or White Cedar? There is a big difference. Apex and Ethan are both talking about ERC. It makes good glass bows but also self bows and all wood lam bows.    Pat

I was talking about western red cedar, at this point in time I have somewhere in the vacinity of 24 matched pairs of cedar parellel lams ready to be used to make bows, still cheking the rest LOL some might end up getting shaved down a bit or used to make a kids bow, beautiful wood, more red than purple though

You could thin them down and use them for vaneers.  Then use something else as a core. Chad

Cedar, particularly eastern red cedar, is some purty stuff on bows!
