Bear td limb question

Wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction on the differences of limb tip colors. I see post about red or green tips and wonder if one or the other is a better limb or more of a collector item, etc.

Most collectors will tell you that the white tips are the most collectible.  If I am correct, these were the first year of the TD limbs, 1970.  In 1971 the red tips came out at the same time the Magnesium risers made their debut.

Some of us associate the white tips with the original wood risers and the red tips with the magnesium risers, although they are inter changeable.  I think the blue tips are more associated with the Bear Victor Comptomter bows.  That was when Victor bought Bear Archery from the Kidde ompany.  The green tips were known as the Gainesville era limbs.

In any case white, red, blue, green, Black and white will all fit on any of the Takedowns regardles of which era they are from.

As far as collectability goes, condition of the limbs will also effect the value.

the earliest  white tip limbs had little recesses or dents on the sides of the latch end, maybe Don or Rich can explain it better than me. I believe these are the most collectible.
Although I have seen the long bow limb (1984?) sets sell for pretty good money in the last year... those are dangerous limbs to shoot I have heard, there is a reason they were only made for one year....

ABH is correct.Fact is there is an A riser and limbs on freebay right now.That I beleave are the early model limbs with the recess cut in the butts....Originaly cut to clear the screw heads...Here's another little tip,Bear Archery started out with serial number 1000 on thier limbs.......abouts 2-3 weeks ago was a set of white tipppers numbered 1027 they were on freebay that was the 27th set off the line after real production started...problemo with that set was they was busted bad.....bowdoc

Where do the black Grayling era tips fit into the mix?

I am assuming you are referring to white limbs with black tips, which where made the same time the black limbs w/ white tips, circa 1970-71. These are normally lighter weight "target" limbs sold with the early C-handles...

The white limbs are usually lighter weight target limbs, not as valuable. I have a 47# set which are more rare. I forget what I paid for them, maybe $200.

One of the sets I always thought were really great shooters,was a set of #3 50# white limbs possible black tip overlays I can't remember T-OL color.But that set had maple corewood,not gray action wood.But plain old blonde northern hardrock maple corewood.Those were as smooth or smoother then any limb I have ever drawn on any bow by any manufactures.They were just plain smooth.Did we also forget to mention White Knights......... remember early 70's Vic Berger was shooting 300 scores indoors with the one the only White Knight limbs and a C-mag...Thats how Vic became known as?? yes you got it The White Knight.Also if you are shopping for limbs and do come across a set of W K's make sure they were not black fiberglass thats been painted white at bear archery and then the silk screens put on top of the white paint !!!!!!!!! bowdoc

Yup, that's them. I new they were early I just dind't know how early. Thanks.
