to go along with the fire lighting thread, I figured I'd post some primitive methods.  I try to practice these skills as often as I can, but I certainly do not 'rely' on them when going afield.  I always have a bic wrapped in gorilla tape (101 uses), as well as a large (5" long x 0.5" diam) ferro rod with me at all times.

here I am making a bowdrill fire using a pine hearth board and spindle. https://youtu.be/3bp-D3Y2Sas?si=pgaNHWOXHMtb3Mpf

and here is a vid of me making fire with flint and steel. I hand forged the steel striker from O1 tool steel, and the flint is a chunk of missouri chert I picked up at MOJAM back in 2001.  https://youtu.be/aXI3GSdY12w?si=pMxVrxIOGS7G53ZH
