My packs are always made out of quiet material.  I hate noisy anything.  I have a Bison Gear basic fanny pack made of wool, and also the selway made of the buck suede.  Both are very quiet. So be careful that you don't buy a pack that will give you away at the slightest limb drag.

Day hunts for whitetails and hogs if I carry a daypack it is my Kathy Kelly deluxe (has side pockets) pack. I bought this for Moose fly in trips in AK because it is 1. Silent and 2. Lightweight. When I pack meat I use a frame pack. This would be similar size to the ones you mention. If you need a 4500 CI pack for a day hunt....then you and I have a different definition of "day hunt".  :biglaugh:

Kathy been making packs a long time. She sells them on the Bay now, "House of whispering pines" store or something like that.

The bison gear are great, and quiet, just too heavy for what I needed a daypack for the most (the weight limited fly ins).  I have been around too many noisy "modern type" packs to believe anyone they are quiet till I get my hands on one.

I'm sure glad you mentioned the Kathy Kelly daypacks, Ryan.  I've only been wanting one for about 30 years!  I just found her website and ordered one.  When she started making them (early 90's?) they were all the rage.  But I was too young and poor at the time to afford one!

As far as Bison Gear being heavy, especially when wet. That's why I never got the wool. I got the Buck Suede instead, very light but still durable.

I'll post tomorrow the day pack I've used over the last decade plus.... it was purchased by the Bow Hush Girls for Father's day years ago, and it has a LOT of frequent flyer miles as well and GA, FL and Sc hunts under it's belt, pardon the pun....

It's pretty much all I need for a day during normal circumstances. I take my Bison Gear Selway otherwise.

"Heavy" is all relative  :biglaugh: I think my buddy's wool bison gear is 3-4 lbs. my Kelly is just over a pound. On the fly in moose hunts I'm pretty weight conscious....i go as far as dehydrating my wet wipes to save 6 ounces (beaver pond water rehydrates them just fine)....so I ain't giving up 2 extra pounds to a daypack!

Ryan you would make a good backpacker on some of the long trails, ounces count.

Well I went with the KIUI it's a nice well made pack. The zippers are pretty loud though and at 2300 CI it's bigger than I really need. I usually use a haversack that a friend of mine made me years ago. It's made from an upholstery material that from a few feet looks like rough out leather. It's quite and easy to get to the contents while wearing it. I'll still use it for quick morning or evening hunts especially when it's warm out. My old backpack is a Field and stream that I'm going to use as a fishing pack. Thanks for all the suggestions

Bison Gear Elk hunter. True daypack. Use every day on multiple 3-week solo moose hunts in Alaska for daily survival gear, camera equipment, game bags etc..
I leave freighter frame in camp and use it to move entire camp, or pack out moose meat.

My girls got me this for father's day long ago.  It came from the Magazine Territory Ahead.

The 1st pic shows two pockets, one a little less deep as the other. 2nd pic shows largest pocket.it also has two water bottle holders on the wide and cushioned waist belt.  There is also a 'slot' to stuff rain gear or a light polar tech or Merino layer that is cinched up by adjusting the waist belt.

Holds everything I need for a day trip, as I hunt pretty light.

It's a little dirty, but has been very durable for me for years.  It's been on a lot of trips and been on a few kills for sure.

First post in a while... I have been using a Hill People Gear Terahumara day pack. It is small and extremely light, which I like for the long hikes here in our Adirondack mountains. I wanted something with slightly more capacity so I'll try the Junction pack this fall.  It, too, is extremely light, and very well made. Should last me till the end of my hunting days.  The thing I like most is the shoulder harness. I have tried many of the packs mentioned here, and many others.  All were nice but the straps on one side or the other slipped off my crooked shoulders! The hill people packs fit me fine and don't slip.
