Any of you guys that make the super nice bows with inlays, I would appreciate a how-to tutorial on a simple inlay.
Thanks in advance.

Dan I have the same question!

The only how-to I ever seen was posted on a Euro bowyer's site. The best I could gather from the pictures was he ground two 36" lams of light colored wood like maple to a .20 thickness. He had three other woods, all varying in contrast and different widths. Lets just say they were Osage, cocobolo and bacote. He also ground all woods to a .20 thickness.

He then laid down one 36" long light colored lam, then on top of the long lam he glued the colored woods in order...

Osage,coco,bacote,coco,Osage,..coco,bacote,coco, Osage,   over and over until the 36" light colored lam was covered. He then glued the other 36" light colored lam on top of it all.

This is what I took from the pictures, but if anyone has actually done this, I sure would like to learn how to do this the correct way!

When dry, he cut the riser on a curve and glued this (lam sandwich) into the riser.

Kevin, If I'm not mistaken, you are talking about an overlay.
Dan, I've played with some inlays and have started many how to's but didn't ever like the finished product. I've sent some instructions onhow I do it to a few people but I'm sure there are easier ways to do them. I'll work up a how to if you like.  Is this kinda what you are talking about?

Kevin Breaux

No, talking about the strip that goes through the risers, like the Blacktail snake bit bows.

But, I sure would like to learn how you did that end cap inlay, awesome work!

Bodork

Oh yea, Kevin. The the term for that is a mosaic stripe. Very beautiful addition to any riser and can be done alot of different ways for different patterns. The blacktail pattern rocks!

Kevin Breaux

Mosaic strip!   I learned something today! Thank you.

Is the way I described it, how it is done?

Rick Wiltshire

Kevin,

Is this what you are talking about?

That's cool looking! How is it done, and what materials are used?...Kirk

MAC

Is it done while the bow is being built or can you do it afterwards?
