need help with knife

Howdy yall, well ive been going slow but i know one of these days im gonna get it. But i got my blanks cut out, and on a piece of scrap i started to cut the bevel on the belt sander...i was wondering how do you keep your cut consistent? do you have a jig?

 I just eyeball it, it would help if you put a center line down the middle where the edge will be, you might want to try on some scrap to get the hang of it, I'd be also interested to see what others post.

Very nice pattern.

I do not use a jig. I eyball most everything, but that also means I have to stop often and check things for straightness and evenness well before it's too late.

  Allow a little material for the hand finishing stage, unless you want a machine finish, of course.

 You can draw file a lot of the blade, if that will give you better results. What kind of sander are you using?

im not sure what the brand is, but its a belt w/ a disc combo. i was going slow on the scrap and i thought to my self that there had to be some better way.

If I'm understanding right, it's a 1 inch X 30 belt sander. Maybe a Delta? I have gound a few blades on this type of sander, so I know it can be done. You'll probably use a lot of belts though.
     Is your steel from a saw blade and is it annealed?

the size of the belt is approx 6" across not sure how long. Im using some circle saw blades, and i dont know if they are annealed...how can i tell?

That sander should work fine. Was the saw blade one with or without carbide teeth? Did you cut the blanks out with a torch, die grinder, etc?

I hand file the beval. I have a belt sander but I tend to get in trouble with it. the hand file lets me work slow enough that I can catch myself before I mess up

the saw blade did not have carbide teeth. we cut it out with a dremel tool, and kept the steel cool with a constant stream of water.
