Early 1950s Bear bows

I have an urge to try to take a deer with a 1953 Grizzly, which is the year of my birth.  I have never strung this bow and would like any advice from you fellows that have shot the static recurves.  The Bear catalog for the year states that the string is about three inches shorter than bow length.  I'm guessing that this will result in a high brace height. My inclination is to string it with a string four inches shorter for starters and see what happens.

4" shorter will give you a higher brace than 3".
I'd probably start low and work my way up. Flex it slow and not to full draw a few times, listen for creeks and cracks.

use a stringer they are easily twisted,start with 3" shorter non fast flight

That's right.  4" will give higher brace height than 3".  One of my quirks, but I always have to stop and think about it but didn't this time.  I haven't actually measured the bow yet.  It isn't marked.  I assume static recurves are measured the same as recurves.

The 53 Grizzly should be a 62" bow. I'd would try a string about 58 1/2" long. Took a deer about 6 years ago with a 53 Kodiak also the same year as my birth. They do tend to have a little more hand shock. Like kevsuperg said just start out by flexing it on the easy side.

1953 Grizzlies are awesome bows. I used to hunt with mine. Good hunting!
