Kinda what I'm doing now....can't move from this phone, and I'm just waiting on a call....board so thought I's share in this fun I had Monday afternoon...
Just wandering around my grandfathers house waiting for the gas man to show up and fill up the propane tank...wandered by shop n tractor barn and what do I see....a host of boring bumblbees....

Yep, made me wish I'd had my bad-mitten racket that I use on them at the house .....when it dawned on me.....I got a bow, flu flus, and a Clark's head in my car. I didn't get to go this weekend and test out the head on chukar, so here's my redemption...
What a blast this was, most shots were from 5 to 8 yards....not going to tell ya how many I hit cause you probably wouldn't believe me anyway, but will show you the ones that I found, or at least the parts that I was able to find....Some had the head missing, and other's the abdomen....and one had both missing as I only found the thorax.
Hitting a bumble bee is much easier than finding it afterward...a large majority are never seen again cause you have no idea where they went....just a 'pot' and a vanishing act...

As good at it worked on bees.....gotta figure it would work great on birds of the smaller variety... and seems to be a very durable head cause it got shot into the ground a lot as some of the bees dove from fighting, and they made great targets buzzing low about a foot off the ground trying to re-group...and those were a bit easier to find.

Flu Flu shooting is just too much fun.....been a long time since I felt like a kid at Granddad's house....but at 47, I might as well have been 12 again cause that's how I felt.
If ya don't have flu flus....you are missing out on some of the simple fun.
Great shooting! Shooting bees is fun it's the field dressing I hate. :D
Rob
I hear ya...normally I wouldn't be killing bumble bees...but now I gotta go back down there and spray them and the shop....or they will eat the shop.
Terry,
How many fletchings do you use and what profile? I'm wanting to build some.
Rob
:biglaugh: That's awesome Terry! I need to get some flu flus!
Goliath vs David? Sometimes you have to eradicate pests. Why not have fun, make it challenging and give them a chance!
That's awesome!
That's funny Terry because I found the same targets outside my shop the other day.
I was shooting regular arrows with field tips.
I'm not sure I ever hit one before I quit because I had one arrow glance off the rocks in the driveway and..... well let's just say that it was all the lesson I needed...lol
Thanks for sharing "T".
God bless,Mudd
Are the wires on that head single bevel or double bevel? Inquiring minds want to know.
good stuff buddy!
Terry,
Be sure to caulk the holes after treating, if not they will easily reinfest.....that is if it's feasible for the barn (Condition, etc)
Froggy

:archer2:
That must have been a blast.
i bet the gas man just drove on by when he seen you out slingin arrows in the air.
Carpenter Bees.
Seriously. :dunno:
Nice shooting. Just showed my 7th grade archers the pict and video from the aim small miss small thread today. I'll have to double up the concept with your picts.
Rob....wrap around fletch.....

Fixin's for Bumble bee gumbo....
Good shootin' Mr. Green!
Shoot straight, Shinken
:archer2:
You guys need to bee-have yourselves.
Bee-sides, you may have gone over the per day in possession limit.
Do you have a bee tag?
Richard
Terry,
Would you recommend a single bevel two blade or big multiblade heads for bumble bees? :bigsmyl:
My appologies I couldn't resist. :nono:
Great shoot'in Terry. Just remember though, a Bumblebee can make a Bull jump a fence. Be careful. If you have never been stung by one, it's a fate you do not wish to experience.
Thanks Guys....Doug, boring bumble bees can't sting...wrong color of face.
Ray, as usual, I like a BIG CHOP. :D
That looks like a ton of fun. Add exterminator to your list of odd jobs. Terry's bee be gone service.
The best part about your post was feeling like you were 12 yrs old again. Does'nt get any better than that.

God bless,Mudd

Tarz,
Really? I guess we have different ones. I used to catch them pollenating wild "morning glory" flowers and pinch the back shut, pop it off the bush, then shake it and throw it... they'd buzz like madmen (this was when I WAS 12) but on one occassion, I was moving when it came outa the flower and got nailed! Hurt like blazes!
Been told that the ones with a white DOT in their forhead can't sting. Never tempted to verifiy that!
That is one use I wouldn't have thought of for the Pheasant Spear. I bet Jeremy would like some pictures of that. Nice shooting
Have you tried yellow jackets? That might qualify for the Dangerous Game forum!
Nice shooting. Have you checked the recipe thread for the best way to cook them?
I would of been right there with ya Terry. Good times...
This is great stuff!
Yup those are the wood- borers. Carpenter bees, not the same as bumble bees. I have them assaulting my deck every year and I use a big rubber blunt. You can't always find them but you can hear it when you hit one.
Loads of fun.
Cool deal! That looks like fun!
I've tried that but I deffinitely had the wrong head for the job! FUN!
I wonder if you could start a pesticide free expermination business this way?
Don't now...but I have to go back to Grandad's house tommorrow and you can bet I'll be taking my Clark heads....as its that same time of year for these arials...as they should be hatching out....
We've got lots of carpenter bees around our barns and outbuildings. My wife has 8 horses in/around our barns and outbuildings. Get the picture??? I can swat the bees with a 1X2 about 18" long-no poison either.
Sounds like a good time. We call them carpenter bees not sure what else their called, but they look just like a bumble bee.Good shooting.
Selfbow.....a badmitten racket is also a blast :D

Are these like mud dobbers? It was like a wasp that built big nests out of mud.
I need to try those heads, I have been shooting little mice in the off season with judos or condors, yours look more lethal.
I wondered were all the Carpenter Bees went! Usually their all up here in NY or so it would seem. You can keep them in Georgia. They can tear your buildings up in a few short years. Bad mitten racket works real well on them.
Not as much fun as shooting them but more effiecent I use the wooden traps and BeeButter on them as I can't shoot them around the barn here .
I never heard of them until we lived in Maryland about 20years ago. I couldn't figure out why someone drilled those nice, neat 1/2" holes in the overhead plank baffles above our deck. Then I saw one going in. Huge!
That was pre-tradbow days, so I used a pellet pistol. Fun too.
wing shooting at it's finest !!
Yeah Pat...and like I said in the thread...I use to hunt with my grandad's pellet gun when I'd stay with them and hunt the farm by myself.....and I felt like a grandson again. ;)
Ha! best thread of the day!!
Terry,
I love your hunting threads and have probably read them all. This was my favorite, it's been a while since you posted something that wasn't just "forum business". Bowhunting is fun. Doesn't matter what the quarry. Thanks for bringing us along.
Jake
That's neat , thanks for bringing this up top .
I'm drawing 58 pounds at my 29 1/2 inch draw. Is this enough to kill bees?! Sorry, could resist! I recently heard someone talking about young native American boys stalking and shooting grasshoppers with their bows. I don't know how historically accurate that is but it sounds plausible and fun! It had me thinking...which is always dangerous! And then this thread shows up! Sounds like a great time!!
