Title: Who remembers Tim Meigs ?
Post by: Keefer on March 04, 2024, 10:16:26 AM
I wanted to ask some questions about a recurve I got this Sat. At our annual banquet for the Traditional Bowhunters of Md. and if you do know anything about his early recurves I posted some pictures on the Traditional History and collectors forum here and have some pictures there to look at.
I hope someone can verify if it is or isn't and I greatly appreciate your help.
  Thanks folks,
   Keefers

I bought my first custom recurve from Tim, and a set of hand crested arrows made by his wife, Fern.  The recurve was his Duoflex model. Tim was quite a friendly guy, and his shop was in a "unique" location on the outskirts of Carson City, Nevada.  I always tried to visit him whenever I was in the area.  Those who knew Tim understand what I meant by his shop being in a "unique" location.  'Nuf said.

Here is a photo of the monument to Tim and Fern at the nearby archery range.

I'll check out your photos, but will respond here briefly.  I posted questions about my Dads old recurve. It was probably made in the early 1950's. Mr. Anderson (Skookum) thought it was made by Tim when he worked for another bow company in California.

Larry Hatfield was the bowyer for Damon Howatt and Martin Archery and a close friend of Tim Miegs. Larry would know but may be hard to reach.  I would suggest reaching out to Ted Fry at Raptor Archery and send him a photo or two.

Remember meeting him at a shoot or 2 back in the 80's or 90's. He did donate a bow to our club for a raffle we had to rebuild our range after a wildfire destroyed it. That was early 2000's. A number of our clubs trad shooters had his bows.
