This little Bowie has a 6-1/2 inch blade I forged from a left over piece of 1084 steel. I forged it very close to final shape leaving a bit of forge scale here and there.

The guard and other fittings are forged stainless and the handle is dyed stag. That spacer is stacked 1/8 inch brown Micarta that has been oxidized. Of course, the intention is for it to look like leather but it's much more durable.

As usual, absolutely beautiful!
I love looking at your knives Lin. That dyed stag reminds me of looking into a low campfire.
Dave.
I love to see all your knives, but your Bowies especially appeal to me.
Murray
Beautiful knife! Nice photography too!
Can you explain the process for how you made the micarta stack? That really has the look and making and compressing leather washers sucks.
I just lightly sand the flats of the layers and super glue them together with a little pressure. Then treat them as a block of any other solid material. This brown micarta has been oxidized by exposure to light. Not in direct sunlight but light. I think UV rays is the thing. That dark surface creates the shading which looks pretty much like leather.
Thanks guys!
Outstanding. That stag is beautiful and goes well with the micarta.
WOW!!
That looks fantastic! Your knives are incredible.
Absolutely gorgeous Lin! That stacked micarta looks a lot like stacked leather but with the advantage of better resilience and stability over the long haul. Brilliant!
Thank you sirs! :campfire:
