My first attempt at a poured pewter bolster. Not perfect, but I like the decorative potential of this technique. I will be practicing with this on future projects.

Looks great. Did you stain the antler?
Hello Tippit!
Yes, I used Fiebing's water based dark brown leather stain for the antler. I put it on heavy, and when dry, rub it down with 0000 steel wool to lighten the high marks and provide contrast, if that makes sense.
I do my own leather work, so I always have the stain laying around. You can buy it easily enough from Tandy.
Very nice, I like it!
I like that. It's very appealing. I just poured a pewter bolster on a little project knife but have not finished it yet. Some of the guys hanging out in the blacksmith shop are pouring some intricate patterns in theirs. Pretty neat.
Thanks Lin! It is a pretty neat technique. Lots of possibilities for carved out channels and patterns, and it also can provide some structural strength if done right.
I just finished another seax style that came out pretty good. Will need to post a picture if I can get some time with the camera.
