Where abouts did you hit it? I have found raccons hard to kill, "Texas heart shots" or frontal chest shot where the arrow passed through the whole length of the body were the only shot I found that anchored them quickly. All the coons I have killed were on the ground.
Frontal chest shot. Was looking down from a tree when shot, showing chest and head.

Hope you put him in a roaster with sweet potatoes and cooked him low and slow. Properly prepared, they eat pretty well.
