I want to make one with a gut hook but how do you get the hook sharp/with what?

i use a round file to put in the gut hook and sharpen it
i dont know if that is the right way
just the way i do it

no scales it's a hidden tang . i think the wood is moca or something? i sharpen with a dremel and fine stone.
