Not much on long drawn out stories, was sitting 20 ft. up in a big poplar and at 8:40 a.m. started to stand up and stretch a little when I looked behind me to make sure nothing was sneaking in. Well here comes a little 6 pt. walking in from my right side at a fast walk, hunting on neighbors property and he has a 140 in. or bigger rule so I said heck, well then I see something out of the corner of my eye and here comes a huge bodied deer.
I reach over grab my bow and start to stand real slow while trying to watch both deer, the small one was already around in front of me and he seen me stand up and took off crashing through some saplings, the bigger deer ran about 10 yds and stopped with his shoulder and head behind a big poplar at 18 yds or so, I knew he was out to his ears or better and looked like he had good mass so it was either let him run off or take the shot, so I took it, double lunged him, he ran 15 yds. stood there for 10 secs. and started to wobble then took off and crashed into some trees and was dead in less the 30 seconds, total distance ran maybe 30 yds.
Will get some pics up later getting ready to go check him in, waitng on a friend to get here who killed one with his compound...
Forgot the bow combo. used was a Dan Howatt Super Diablo 47@28 w/2113`s and 125 gr. Magnus 4blade Stinger, arrow weight was 446 gr. complete pass througgh with arrow laying on the ground 4 yds. past deer. The bows tips have been redone to use FF and it shoots that arrow at about 194 fps. at my 29.5 in. draw, and is quiet as a church mouse. Added a pic that shows a side view.. So the redone tips are working out? Congrats.
nice job!!.....I see you use your bow quiver upside down..
real awesome way to go
Great buck, well done!
Congrats on a fine looking Buck...
Nice Buck! Why do I see so many people bringing them home without field dressing them? What do you do with the guts?
"but he said he didnt care as it was a mature buck and good for a recurve."
I wonder what he meant by that? Probably doesn't realize the world record typical was also killed with a Howatt recurve. Ignorance is bliss I guess...
Congratulations on a beautiful deer, nice hide and pretty rack, not to mention some tasty vittles...
Mike, Bow shoots awesome with D-97 string, appreciate you doing the tips for me..
Bob, I live in the woods with a big ravine all around my house, I just toss carcass and everything in the ravine and its all gone in a couple days, the local racoon/possum population love me.
Fredbear, I put it on upside down so it will work in my bowholder otherwise the shafts are in the way.
Kevin, think he just was referring to how much harder it is to kill a deer w/recurve compared to a compound, he used to hunt with a recurve years ago but doesnt hunt w/bow at all anymore due to messed up shoulders..
Thanks for all the kind words guys..
Congradulations Dean, nice buck. They really moved wed morn. as I had 6 bucks come by me,one a 22" 10pt. with forked brows, but gosted by at 35 yds. at first light- passed on a 18" 10 pt-that was huge in body 140's [will regret it dec.]chasing a doe- he pbobably won't get a second chance.Sorry I took so long but my dial-up has been down for two days.Congrats. again!!! John Benetti
Nice buck. Did you use one of my shafts?
way to go Dean ! Have you still got that Sterling TD recurve i sold ya? Takin' any deer with it?
Randy, yea I still have it, killed a doe and a buck with it year before last, probably wont ever get rid of it. Ive got 4 of his bows now, had 5 and sold a 65#er..take care, Dean
John, As a matter of a fact I think I did, did I get some 2113`s from you, if so yes..
