First bird with my recurve. 50# Super Kodiak, Beman MFX 400 w/100gn brass insert and old 2 blade Bear Greenhead.
Hunting in Muskogee County in Oklahoma. I was sitting on the ground in a natural blind that my son and I threw together 2 weeks ago.
Had a hen decoy on the ground and a jake decoy standing behind it about 12 yards in front of me.
Three hens came off the roost and landed 'bout 20 yards away. Then the tom and two more hens landed behind me. When the first three hens saw the decoys they started putting nerviously and the tom came to see what was up. When he saw the decoys he got ticked. Full strut he came in at a fast walk 10 yards in front of me and faced the decoys.
All I remember is picking a spot and the next thing I saw was my arrow going completely thought him. He jumped up and flew about 30 yards, landed, took another few steps and fell over.
He weighed 16 pounds and had a 9 inch beard. Small in size, but mean enough to have his own flock of 5 hens!
Its an awesome feeling when everything comes together and your natural abilities take over.
Thanks everybody for looking and reading.

Congrats, I like how you laid out the bird in the final photo. I've hollowed out an oak windfall and am planning to have the deeks facing me in hopes that a bird will face up and offer a REAR entry. Is that the shot your bird offered you?
  :clapper:

Congrats!!
Smoke1953 this bird was in sull strut facing away from me slightly to my left. I had to lean around a small tree to make the shot so it was kind of a quartering away shot. Arrow went in just behind the right leg and out just in front of the left leg under his wing. Couldn't have asked for a better opportunity.
Hoytman, I wasn't sure if this was a Rio or an Eastern. I took him to a taxidermist and he said he looked like a hybred based on his color. If anybody here can identity him I'd appreciate it. I know the pictures are blurry so it may be difficult to tell.
Archenemy
I didn't think it looked like a true Merriam, but I new it wasn't an Eastern. I would guess cross is probably true. I didn't realize you had Merriams there. We don't have them here so I am not very familar with them except to see them on TV.
OUTSTANDING
I don't think we have Merriams. I thought they were out west mainly. I have heard of Rios and Easterns in Ok. I don't know the differences yet.
Congrads!!
