Jim came and hunted with us for 4 days and killed this buck, but i will make him tell the story. (http://i268.photobucket.com/albums/jj10/longbowben/040.jpg)
Nice buck! Congrats and looking forward to the story.
Couldn't happen to a nicer guy.
Jim has donated so much to all the Michigan hunting organizations, he single handedly is responsible for millions of dollars to their coffers IMO.
Looking forward to hearing the story.
You got that right, Steve. Jim is quite possibly the most generous traditional bowhunting contributor around. Way to go, Jim. You deserve it!
Now that's what I call shot placement! Beautiful buck Jim! :readit:

Ol Jim rolled into our camp the evening after he shot his buck and he was on top of the world. He really deserved a beautiful buck and he sure got it. Thanks goes out to LongbowBen and Mike, Jim couldn't say enough about these great tradgangers! He was truly humbled by their generousity. :campfire:
Hi everybody
There's quite a story here. This has been the most incredable season I've ever had and it's all a result of a lot great friends being extremly generous. It all started with My good buddy Jerry Keck of Michigan Bowhunters fame giving me a dozen beautiful cedar arrows a couple years ago. I've been saving them for a special hunt. Next, My great friend and fellow bowyer Steve Turay of Northern Mist Longbows gave me a really nice Baraga longbow. Next, my new friend and customer Ben Hilt of Ohio called and invited me to hunt with him and his partners Rob Hilt and Mike Rizzo at there camp near Bethesda. I had to think that over for a mili second before accepting. Mike & Rob invited JD Lund of Whisper Stick bows to camp also. All I can say is those Ohio boys really know how to treat a guy. They put us up in their extremly cool cabin, even gave up their beds for us. They fed me more more than I could eat, anybody that knows me at all knows that's all but impossible. They wouldn't accept a penny or let us buy a thing. Then they put us in there best stands. They put my on my best buck ever. Dressed my deer and even drug it out for me. It just don't get any better than that. One day they smoked 11 racks of ribs. Another day they smoked can't remember but I think it was 18 or 20#'s of pork butt , Had 2 huge party's with 16 or 18 friends over. Quite simply , it was one of the best and most fun hunts I've ever been on. I saw ton's of deer [Ben said the big ones wern't moving but I thought it was wonderful].I saw several smaller bucks and 1 real big one that was a ways off.. Best deer hunting I've ever expearanced. It was a story book ending. The last 5 to 10 minutes of shooting light on my last day to hunt and this guy came in. I told Steve I was gonna do my best to shoot something with that bow, it just couldn't have worked out any better.
After leaving their camp I went down to our camp near Jackson Ohio and my buddy Jim Larson had also taken a beautiful 9 point. Earlier this season another friend Darryl Quidort took a real nice 8 point and a doe at our place. It's been quite a year. Now I have one more goal, My buddy Ken Scollick also gave me some really nice arrows [which he has a habit of doing] and I'm trying to kill a deer with one of those.
I want to thank Ben, & his son Hayden[one of the most well mannered boys you'll ever meet], Rod Hilt, and Mike Rizzo for sharing their camp and showing us such a great time .I also wanna thank Mike Parrish Ben's friend who wasn't hunting but helping Ben with all the cooking and camp chores, and a secial thanks to Mike [ sorry but I can't remember the last name] the land owner for sharing his awesome proporty with us. Truly a great bunch of guys. Also got to thank Steve, Jerry and Ken for all the equipment they gave me.
Traditional people are as good as it gets. Hope I can do something to get even with you guys. C ya. Jim
Congrats Jim Reynolds! Sounds like you had a well deserved hunt. I was going to ask you about the bow I thought it was a Thunder Stick Longbow. Now I see a Baraga. Looks like you put a real hurtin' on that buck too what broadhead were you using?
Bentpole
I was using a 190 grain Ribtek. I generally use zwickys or magnus but the arrows were a little stiff and the ribbies were the only thing i had that were heavy enough, I must say they worked great. I'd like to take credit for a great shot but actually I spined the buck, The hole you see is the finishing shot.
Congrats Jim!!!!! :clapper: :clapper: NIce buck, couldn't happier for ya. RPjr
Nice deer Jim...Congrats... ;)
Excellent, Guys!!
Congrats Jim. Bring some pictures to the banquet!
Congrats Jim!! Awesome buck! I've been dealing with disappointment over not being able to make a trip back to my home state, Ohio of course, to hunt this season, but reading your story made me feel much better about it. Thanks for sharing, I needed that. :clapper:
Great Buck Jim, congratulations.... The only problem is that I will have to listen to Keck all through winter league talking about how this feat could have never been accomplished without his fine arrows.!!!!
Congrats!! well deserved.
Here is another pic glad you enjoyed your hunt we had a great time. Both guest shot at thier bigest buck ever it didnt work out for JD but thats hunting. (http://i268.photobucket.com/albums/jj10/longbowben/044.jpg)

Awsome!!!
I must say it was a pleasure to have Jim and JD in camp with us last week. No, we are not guides nor do we claim to be. We are just hunters who feel blessed to have the property we have and just like to share it with others. Ben was unlucky enough to have cooking duties this year due to the little buck he already shot(see his avatar) so all I had to do is hunt! The weather was a little warm and the bigger ones just weren't moving that good. But I think all had a good time and ate well.
As far as paying us back Jim, the smile on your face when I saw you after you shot that buck is all the payment I need. Take care.
Mike
Good job Jim what a buck and sounds like a great hunt!
So will Steve T be using a Thunderstick to take Deer? :D
Drew
I haven't made one for Steve yet. He won't shoot anything but a straight limb bow and I haven't got a form built yet. I plan to remedy that situation soon. I don't know if he'll hunt with it or not, that will be up to him . C ya. Jim
Nice job jim what a buck.
Cody
Congratulations Jim...that smile says it all... :bigsmyl:

Super job. Jim, hope top be able to send you some pics from the MOAB you made me. It shoots better every day, Sir.
Great Deer, Congratulations! :clapper: :clapper:
Well,
I hate to be the one that has to point out the discrepency in Jim's story, but here goes.
Mr. Reynolds claims that his host "Cooked more food than I could eat"
Well, I have shared deer camp with JR many times. I have cooked for him many times as well. In fact, I still have one bicept that is abnormally larger than the other as a direct result of spatula and tonge usage.
Mr. Reynolds may have to undo a button or two, maybe even take a short nap, but it is impossible to cook more than he can eat, period!
I believe it is time for JR to come clean and admit that he could have eaten more if he wanted to.
Way to go JR, fine animal for sure.

PJ, when I saw Jim just before he left for Ben and Mike's camp, he was 200 lbs of coiled steel but when he arrived in our camp a week later he had bulked up to 210 or so. He even shared his little Debbies with me so they must have really fed him good! :readit:
way to go nice buck
When I went to camp to see Jim's buck he wasn't around. I stepped inside his trailer and all I could see was little debbies, twinkies, snowballs, chocolate rolls etc...the diet of champions!
Great buck Jim...congrats again!
Congrats on a great kill and a great story!!!!!! I agree, Traditional people are the best there is!
When he showed up he had 20 boxes of little debbies and they where under lock and key.And yes we had him tap out at the table every night. :biglaugh:
Not to mention he had the shortest walk to his stand. So needless to say he didn't walk off much.
OK, I'll admit it, I stole one of Jims little debbies. I swear I didn't think he would find out. I never knew he counted them.
We're already planning next years menu, 11 racks may not be enough. We love to cook! :bigsmyl:
Might want to add a few cases of little debbies to that menu--
Jim, that's a great buck! Congratulations...You are so deserving. Real happy for ya! --
You fellas are shooting some purdy deer down that way! We got to see photos of the "Larsen" buck, and the "Quidort"-buck...(we call it half & half)-- And maybe I missed it, but we're still waiting to see the 2008 Burkhardt buck...(Brian... Marv ? )-- :D -Donnie McKellar
Hey guys
I resemble all these remarks. By the way Larson, that's 300# of lean mean guiverin passion. The 200# wasn't coiled steel. That was coiled sauage that I brought to snack on.
I found out last night that I still have it, 2 women in bed at once, Sara Lee and little Debbie
And why didn't you share that coiled sausage?
I think I just put my foot in my mouth. :knothead:

This is JD's response to Leatherneck's "sharing coiled sausage" request. My feelings exactly.
Well, sharing the sausage doesn't scare me as much as hiding the salami would!
:biglaugh:
Nice Deer! congrats.....
Man this is getting bad. :biglaugh: Nice picture of JD.
